I hope once you’ve received it that the Twelve impresses you enough to enjoy the experience. I’ve bought a few things when I really should not have even looked at them, including a couple of watches. I’ve kept all of them.

I'm going to say congratulations, its a fantastic watch, even at $50 over RRP.
I hope you lose the regret, when it arrives.

At least I didn’t buy a Bel Canto (fulfilling Iain’s Law)

I think that your subconscious was prepared to win which is why you bid $50 over and not say $3.55 over!

That the watch is a Twelve tells me that you didn't buy from some watch sale flipper so your worthy efforts should be commended.

Incidentally was your winning bid the full $50 over?

I'm sure that you'll be fine with it when it arrives but do please tell us.

@NationOfLaws Delmar - did you consider not completing the purchase, and getting a strike of some sort from eBay?

Yes, full $50 over. I don’t feel too terribly bad about what I paid for it. It’s roughly what I would’ve paid for a new one and without the wait. I just didn’t need the watch.

I’m mellowing out a bit. I think it’s still a week or so away from being here. Maybe the excitement will grow.

I did consider it but I think it’s really frustrating when people do it to me and I didn’t want to treat someone else that way.

I had that the other way. I came second in an auction, but the buyer didn't proceed as they were in S. America and hadn't factored in import duties. eBay then offered it to me as a lucky loser. The thing was, I was sure if the winner hadn't bid at all, I would have won at a lower price, so I tried to negotiate a reduction, and the vendor decided not to sell it to me at all. I wasn't 100% sure about the watch. It was a good price if it was genuine, but there was no box and papers, and it was hard to judge the exact condition from the photos. I probably missed a good deal, but it's not the first time I've missed a good deal. :D

Probably a smart move. It wouldn’t be very difficult at all for someone to set up that situation with the original “buyer” backing out. I’ve never heard of 2nd place getting a chance to pick it up.

I had the original winner back out when I was bidding on my Moonglow (someone probably put a really high max bid to guarantee a win with the intention to only pay if it was low enough). There wasn’t any second place offer to me. The watch got posted again and I won it for significantly cheaper than the close price of the first auction

I’ve had it happen both ways. It almost always works out best if they relist it.

Sort of regret buying this Oris Cervo Volante . . . four times the price of the Sealander on my wrist and I can't read the date without specs. Don't get me wrong, the Oris is a very nice watch to look at but its rather delicate, with a deer-skin strap thats eye wateringly expensive to replace. I never wear it so it sits on the stand on my desk and every time I catch a glimpse, I think of the opportunity cost. Ah, regrets!

We have all done it. I have a Porsche Design sat gathering dust in a watch box that I should not have bought. It may grow on you, it may not.

Sell it take the loss and think better for having owned it.

It's the sellers choice at that point. They can extend second chance offers or relist the item. I've used it when the number of bidders has been low. If there were a ton of bidders it is better to relist it I think.
