How Noisy Is Your C60?

Post by Scrogg »

My C60 Trident Pro MkI is a bit noisy! :(

I don't mean in normal use, but if I give it a shake the noise is a bit concerning...

I know automatics have moving parts, that move more than normal when the watch is shaken, but mine sounds as though something has come lose, and has done since I took delivery in December 2014.

Add to that a near non-existent power reserve (it will almost always stop overnight no matter how long it is worn during the day) and a timing tolerance (n rare occasions when it hasn't stopped completely) well outside the claimed +/- 20 seconds per day, and I'm pretty sure it needs some expert attention?

Is this something anyone else has experienced/is experiencing? If I send it back am I likely to just be told this s "normal"?

I would send it back to CW under the warranty. Mine isn't really audible and right now only gains ~3 sec/day

I agree - I would return it - mine is very quiet and keeping very good time with a solid power reserve.

I third the other suggestions, mine is whisper quiet, sounds like there is something wrong with yours, best to send it back.

My Mk 1 2824 COSC is very quiet. You need the reassurance of having 'em look at it. There is no limit to the number of times you can return it....take advantage of the wholly excellent 60/60!

My professional opinion is that it is partially broke. I would also suggest a warranty visit.

Mine hardly makes a noise and has a good power reserve.
The fact yours has a poor power reserve, even after full days wear would have me concerned.
I would definitely return and get it checked out.

Sounds like the rotor isn't working maybe, definitely send it back for repair.

Me thinks that maybe there is a loose screw causing the rotor to not spin or wind properly. Whatever the problem it will be sorted under the warranty.

I own 2 Tridents and both don't make any excessive noise when shook. Also both have a decent power reserve and the one I have on today is running 1-2 secs fast per day, so pretty accurate as well. You definitely need to use the 60/60

All of my CW automatics have been quiet, regardless of ETA or Sel movement. My Mercer Brigadier (9015) is quite audible. Considering its a 'patent' of the ETA i was quite surprised by this. Perhaps a difference in the lubricant used? Its not loud enough to concern me in anyway, just something my ear picked up on first of all. By far the noisiest movement was that in my Mako. Again not loud enough to make me think something was wrong but certainly noticeable in a quiet room.

If you have other noises I would pop is back under the guarantee policy, after all it is industry leading. They will put is right/back, whatever the culprit :-)

Well it has taken a while (moving house, becoming unexpectedly unemployed, usual time-consuming stuff) but the C60 has now left on its possibly quite lengthy journey to the menders...

It's back! :D

Technician's report states:

Faults found on inspection
Bezel mis-aligned
Losing time

Repairs carried out
Re-aligned bezel
Movement regulated within tolerance margin
Rotor oiled to reduce noise

Technicians comments
Time checked over a 5 day period

Hopefully now that it should be working properly (it's certainly a lot quieter) and doesn't look like it was assembled in a hurry, I can fall back in love with it...
