Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
£550 must include the return of the watch by helicopter at a 15 minute interval of your choice on a Sunday.

Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
I haven't read all the posts, but £180 to service a mechanical chronograph is unrealistically cheap. I suspect that customer services mistook it for the C60 Pro three hander. £150 to £250 should be ballpark.redmonaco wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2023 11:57 am Just sent my approx 5 year old C60 Pro Chrono (The Beast) for a service as the chrono refuses to run. I also asked for a new crystal to be fitted as it had a tiny chip in it. Katie from customer services indicated that the service on this model would be around £180.
So, I was more than a bit shocked to receive an invoice this morning of nearly £550!! That represents over 35% of the new price of the watch...
Bearing in mind that this watch was approx £1500 new I think this is exorbitant. Many of us have moaned about the cost of Rolex servicing but for CW to ask for this amount of money on a watch that is only just over their 5 year movement guarantee is out of order IMO.
Maybe they should publish their service costs somewhere so people can make an informed decision regarding whether to by a CW watch...
Or is it just me thinking this is overly high?
A chronograph is much more complicated and therefore, time consuming/expensive to service and you got a crystal fitted too, so I'd say that wasn't a bad deal.
Expectations were not managed very well in this case.

Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
Not any more. Oris now offer a ten year service life/warranty.nbg wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2023 3:17 pm My take on this:
- A estimate of £180 was provided without taking into account the specific watch.
- The watch has been sent in and inspected. A quote of £550 has now been provided.
- If the OP doesn’t want the work carried out (CW issue an invoice and require payment up front IIRC) all he has to do is ask for the watch back and get it serviced elsewhere.
Yes service costs in the industry are high. This being the reason that the best value brand to go for over a long period of ownership and a service every ten years is….
Rolex.

Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
In my experience, CW have taken payment once they've received, inspected and quoted for the work. I've paid online and only then have they started the work and I've been happy.
If, let's say, I'm subsequently told, once the work is complete, it's going to cost more than I've already paid then I'd question that. I mean, do they keep the watch until I've paid the difference although I didn't agree to the extra cost? They're not going to 'undo' the work are they and send it back if you're not happy and refuse to pay?
It's a tricky situation.

Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
I would expect the cost of service for any 7750 based chronograph to be at least $500 USD, and not unusual at $700. That's the norm... Omega charges $900 USD for a 7750 service for example.

Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
Yup. He's right. I looked at getting one of my Seamaster Chronos serviced recently. I'd thought maybe £600. I was wrong: times have changed.KingRaptor wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 3:52 pm I would expect the cost of service for any 7750 based chronograph to be at least $500 USD, and not unusual at $700. I think before doing anything I'd be asking Simon Freese for a ballpark figure for the required to restore the full chronographical functionality of a 7750 watch describing what's amiss: CW's price might not be out of the way.Bahnstormer_vRS wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2023 2:39 pm I feel we need some more information from @redmonaco as there seems to be more to this than we have been told thus far.
The initial, possibly off the cuff, estimate of £180 seems low for a 7750 service as this is about what I paid on a C40 Speedhawk maybe 8 years ago. I'd anticipate the cost today to be in the £300 - £350 region.
The Chronograph is reported as 'not working'. Why is this and what is the remedy?
How much is the replacement crystal?
It all adds up.![]()

Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
A chronograph service with replacement sapphire totals £599 from Bremont... according to their current website pricelist.

Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
Correction.... £560.50. I just noticed there is a 25% discount on the sapphire if a service is being done!
Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
Those Bremont prices seem relatively reasonable. Almost makes me want to get mine done. Almost!
Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
Yes, it seems it was more of Customer Services setting unrealistic expectations...
Although I told Customer services exactly what watch it was they quoted £180 which they shouldn't have and which, of course set expectations. I reasoned that if the service was £180 (which I thought was very reasonable!) then the crystal would also be a very reasonable price, maybe an extra £60 I reasoned.
Having now got a breakdown it would seem the service (although they call it a repair for some reason) is £306. And now with the comments this seems a goodish price. And they wont replace crystal but will swap case for £240. Again having checked the market that seems reasonable.
Much more than I was expecting on the basis that I was misled by CS in the first place. Having read the comments, got the breakdown, and checked the market it seems quite a reasonable deal. :0)
Now I'll have to figure out what watch will have to go to pay for it!!

Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
^^^ Kind of a good outcome and yes, I sympathise about how to pay for it!
Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
I wish Christopher Ward could have an established service price list on their website, like the other manufacturers do.
Re: HOW MUCH!!?? (service shock)...
It's not just a service innit. It's not a running watch sent in for some fresh oil and a demagnesation.
It's a broken watch sent in for repair. UKP 550 doesn't sound unreasonable

I seem to recall that they used to, or perhaps I’m imagining that.

@Thegreyman You are not imagining it. They used to have it, but not for a while now.
