Hour hand design

Post by Thirteen »

Hi all, had to send my C60 back unfortunately.

One reason was the design of the hour hand.
Is it just me (it probably is) that finds it odd that it is filed down to the tip and therefore thinner at the point?

The Sealander is the same so cannot get one of those either.

Well, I’ve just looked at my Sealander through a strong loupe under a strong light and, whilst I can see what you are driving at, I’m forced to conclude that you are blessed with very keen eyesight and extremely exacting standards. In two years of ownership I’ve never noticed it, and now that I know it won’t make an iota of difference.

Just looked at my c60 pro 300, I think the tip is filed down to be thinner (hard to tell under a10x Loupe),

Correction caught the light and it is.

Like it tbh.

In fact I think the minute hand has a smaller filed down tip too, looks like attention to detail to me as you need a strong glass to see it.

I guess if you just don't like something no amount of encouragement will make you change your mind. When you say "one reason" were there other reasone also?

I hope you can find a watch which ticks your boxes.

Are you referring to the brushed/filed ends of the hands or something else? If it is, the tip matches the other end of the hands and is just part of the design.

I would prefer just the polished finish but it only really shows with keen eyes and when the light hits perfectly. I just consider it as greater attention to detail by CW.

I always thought they just wanted the hand to have more than one plane, so that it would reflect light at different angles.

I’ve been staring at my C63 36mm for about 10 minutes! At first I didn’t get it, but now I see and I actually prefer this finish, at a glance you get a great play with light, matching the light catcher case.

I hadn’t noticed before you pointed it out. I like the hand set as it is so I don’t see it as a problem. Design decisions will suit some and not others. Hope you find one you like.

Standard Arrow hands, mostly seen on Citizen. Same as Marmite, mostly seen on toast . . . . you either like or don't

I noticed it before on mine and I don't mind it. If the light hits it a certain way it can look a little odd - like the arrow point sort of disappears. But overall it's just a design choice that seems ok.

I keep coming back to this topic, wondering if I should bite. It almost feels like a troll.

The hands are faceted to catch the light at different angles. It can be seen as a design decision and liked or disliked, but I think it's more of a functional element. It makes it so that the hands won't disappear in the light/reflections off the hands at any angle.

I always liked it. I always liked the contrast that the brushed tips have against the rest of the polished elements. There is always the Aquitaine with full polish. To each his own.

Sometimes it’s best not to loupe your watch because once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
