I just do that to stop the time to get a nicer photo with the hands at 10 and 2, but I’ll always leave the crowns in when the watches are in the box.

@morgbug Is it you who often mentions divorce? I mentioned my wife’s general wtf attitude to my 4 months of collecting. I even mentioned possibly hiding watches. Thankfully people advised that honesty was best but nobody seemed to share my problem. I’m surprised this vague topic isn’t mentioned more often. How resistant to new purchases is your better half?

I'm being mostly facetious about the divorce aspect. My wife and I are, by nature, generally very cheap. But I have a bad collecting gene and watches are just the latest in a long line of things I've collected. She tolerates me quite a lot, with a huge heaping of patience. So for the most part I can do a lot. But being more prudent goes a long way. My wife is also quite happy with a Timex Triathlon on her wrist, so love of watches she does not have.

The C60 Pro 300 Bronze I wanted to get a year prior but didn't time things well with sales so I waited. In the interim I fell in love with the C63 Elite. During the January sale I was able to be online with a choice of the two (as well as two more I wanted) and went with the Elite. I love that watch.

When the sale 'refreshed' later in January and the Bronze was there I had to get it. From the perspective of getting that specific watch I waited almost a year to pick it up. I also love this watch.

The worst aspect though is I'm in Canada and our dollar is terrible with the exchange. In the grand scheme of watches, CW is quite reasonably priced but that's over $4000 CAD (due to exchange and duty charged in Canada) for two watches within a couple of weeks (those that own Rolex, Omega, etc. laugh loudly). Given we're inherently cheap, it's best to space things out and everyone remains happy.

I dearly wish CW had a Canadian arm though so I could buy watches within the country. For those two watches the DHL brokerage/Customs fees were quite dear, around $600 added to the price.

@morgbug
Yeah I love my 3(!) watches and felt I needed them but we love and need our wives more.
As you briefly mention it is also quite funny that our collections are relatively small and modest in price. I have 1x £760 CW, 1x £140 Seiko & 1x $500us Hamilton when others have 35 Omegas or 10 Rolexs. I would love a Sinn but they’re £1,300!!

Yes $4000c does just sound a lot.

Collecting is a broad term I guess.

@mhh8901 that’s quite an itch for Twelves. I’ve yet to buy the same watch in a different colour but I can imagine the day.

Teddy Baldisarre has a couple of good videos about being different types of collector. I think he says he should always be able to smash all his watches with a hammer and it not effect his financial bottom line. Something like that.

I have a weakness for anything high quality at a discount and buying things late at night.

Guilty. I'm settled on the 3 twelves for now, mineral blue, peach and frosted lichen. 3 unique colors, the latter two feature color matching straps. While for the mineral blue I have the steel bracelet plus both shades of blue straps offered by CW.

I love that all 3 have a different dial size, 36, 38 and 40mm. Really makes it a versatile selection between that and the colors.

Besides these and my sand dune aeolian, I have 4 other watches, a birth year seiko hand me down from my father, two victorinoxes and a mathey tissot skeleton integrated bracelet.

All in all, I could buy my entire 8 watch collection 3 times over and still pay less than a Girard-Perregaux Laureato much less a Royal Oak. As someone obsessed with integrated bracelets those would be the dream purchases but for now I can buy a dozen twelves and still save money.

I am officially stopping all watch purchases since the US tariff announcement until the dust settles and things become more clear. I can't stomach paying a third of the price in duty.

I think this will be good for me. I can save and hopefully get my hands on the steel twelve x skeleton which yes costs more than my current 4 CWs combined.

Let's see what is coming end of April. If it's a twelve with a tourbillon then it's game over for my resolutions.

Yes I nearly jumped on a Twelve in the sale and if there had been a Dune I would have found that irresistible. CW prices are in a sweet spot quality wise even out of the sales. I was looking at a £11k green Ingénier this morning. One day.

In the end I persuaded myself I wanted a quartz PRX instead in mint. I have persuaded myself that I can’t have any more automatics as my winder is full!

That's a really solid collection, and much faster than my 0 to 2 CW watches in three years.

I've been smitten with the Super Compressor for awhile, but it's out of my price range (even more so taking current circumstances into account).

I'm happy that I'm really happy with the two I have!

Thanks, the arrival of the sample sale whilst I was very much in the honeymoon phase with my first probably didn’t help at all! I’m also a sucker for a bargain and 40% off was too good to pass up.

I’m sure without the sample sale I would have taken my time more, but I don’t regret the 3 I have and saved a chunk of money too :D

The super compressor is a stunning watch and I can really see why it would be on your list. I’m sure your time to buy one will come

Until then it’s great your happy with the two you have, I’ve recently reduced my collection of watches quite a bit and feel really happy with what’s left so I know that’s a good feeling.

Have lurked here over the last 24 months since buying the great supercompressor. Learnt loads. Have subsequently bought 4 more watches from various “posh” brands but the twelve x is winning the competition for wrist time by a mile (or hours!). Just a fabulous watch!!
Agreed, I got pretty carried away with the hobby early last year but thankfully on fairly low cost watches while I found my feet and figured out what styles I really liked.

Super compressor was a cracking choice to start with and that twelve x is an amazing watch, I’m not suprised at all it’s your most worn watch

What other brands do you own? I only ask as I’m curious how they measure up to your CW’s. I’ve handled quite a few ‘posh’ watches and from what I’ve tried only stuff up in the £2-3k mark starts actually match a CW in terms of quality. I tried a Hamilton Murph which was on a bracelet a week after getting my Sealander GMT and I was bitterly disappointed considering it was nearly £1k, from a quality and spec perspective it couldn’t hold a candle to the Sealander.

. . . . .

@Bahnstormer_vRS After 4 months I have 3 automatics. And a wife that seems to have accepted my hobby but is unaware I have another purchase coming. Thankfully winding/power reserve has served as a useful brake on my purchases (that and a forthcoming expensive skiing holiday). I like all my (3!) watches wound, set and ready to put on. Having bought the £35 double winder I’m now all great. How does this work with 35 watches? I presume there’s just a point when you give up on having them vaguely wound?

. . . . .
Back in the day, when I was likely at the stage of watch collecting as you are now with <6 watches, I had a couple of inexpensive 2-watch winders and by rotating my daily wear would keep the watches wound.

I remember at one time having a glitch with a 7750 powered C40 Speedhawk that, if left on the winder would eventually stop, when any other watch would run happily. This was until I realised my winders were set to run in both directions (clockwise and anticlockwise) but the C40 only winds clockwise.

As to what I do now with a larger collection, and the winders having packed up (I said they were cheap)? Simple, really. I wear a watch, then put it back in the box to let it power down and wait until the next time.

Rolex explorer - bought new for a big birthday, just a beautiful classic watch, has imo a quality feel and fit that is better than my CWs, esp I think in the bracelet - tho I think the CW bracelets are very good.

JLC Reverso squadra - got second hand because I thought it was different and liked the Reverso concept. Different It is! Love the “reverso” fx and the open caseback showing the mechanical working is gorgeous, but struggle with the heft that the square dial gives it. Feels a couple of steps up from the supercompressor but the twelve x runs it very close imo.

Love the Explorer but have never handled one, mainly as I’ve got a big birthday coming next year and don’t want to tempt myself to be honest! I will try one this year though just to see how nice they really are.

Reverso is an awesome piece and like you say it’s different, suprised the Twelve runs it close on the quality front though! Intergrated bracelet watches aren’t really my thing but the Twelve has been getting my attention recently.

Bix wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 1:28 am It’s fair to say I’ve got the CW bug, it started with my C63 Sealander GMT in 36mm which I’ve got a vintage oak leather and consort bracelet for and I love this little watch!

IMG_3179.jpeg

Then the sample sale came along, I was a bit under weather on the day so couldn’t attend which I was gutted about.

Then I spotted the online sample sale and managed to pick up a C65 Dune Aelion in green and a C60 Trident 300 Pro 38mm in black.

Amazing price for both and chuffed with their condition too. Very different watches but both great, the Trident especially I’ve really fallen for!

Did anyone else double down on the brand after your first purchase or did you take it a little slower? If it wasn’t for the sample sale I wouldn’t have gone quite so mad but I don’t regret it at all :D

Sealander GMT 36mm, then the Trident 38mm and finally the Dune. To be fair I’m considering moving the Dune on as I’m just not reaching for it like I am the other two.
