It was an interesting look into all the different aspects of developing a new movement and watch, and marketing/releasing it.
The forum cameos were fun.

Re: Freewheelin’
I watched through the whole thing, and sadly, I was not impressed.
I was expecting that the documentary would unveil more about the process itself, discussions with suppliers, major issues that they had to overcome, maybe even some big guys threatening them out of it (i.e. with a "what gives you the right" attitude). Instead, it was mostly boring (to me), showing an appropriate startup level of decision making, not planning enough ahead and rushing with the design and testing, even the CEO leaking the watch randomly to people at the British Watchmakers day, which seems a bit unprofessional.
For me at least, the trailer suggested something much better, setting high expectations but failing to fully deliver, kind of like the watch itself. Sorry, I know this is a controversial topic right now and a lot of people will disagree with me, but I just couldn't resonate with it. I do appreciate that many people will enjoy both the documentary and the watch, which it is indeed outstanding from a technical perspective. I also strongly believe that the movement will serve as a center piece in the years to come, and I do trust that CW will release other models down the road that will satisfy the rest of us.

Re: Freewheelin’
Just finished this in three bitesize chunks. My take aways... It's all quite impressive really, this little exposé. CW come across as little co-operative from a lille provincial town in the UK. It all feels very pally, very unassuming, very organic. Even Mike France feels like a favourite uncle or, sorry Mike, favourite grandpa. Yet somehow they have the ambition to come up with a watch like the Loco which they want to produce at scale. It's hard to marry the watch with just how low key and accessible the brand come across. As they like to say of themselves, I guess they're an overnight success twenty years in the making.

Re: Freewheelin’
Can I just tender my apologies for not being able to attend the preview yesterday.
As a result I awoke to a lot of notifications about the new loco.
In passing, I thought loco might refer to the train-track-like layout of the lower part of the dial.
Edit. In fact lots of things on the design, including the movement, remind me of locomotives, not that I'm an expert by any means.

Re: Freewheelin’
I enjoyed the forum preview and the documentary. Very well done I thought.
I think the new watch is really lovely although I still very much do not agree with a watch launch where not only are there no watches available to buy at launch (tudor always manage it!) and that youhave to pay the whole amount upfront then settle in for the long wait yet again. A deposit maybe but not the full amount.
I can’t justify one myself and wouldn’t want to pony up in advance anyway but it has made me feel like I want another CW in my collection again
Very successful I imagine and well done CW

Re: Freewheelin’
With the name, can I make a request therefore, for a CW Railmaster watch to be developed.
Ball, Hamilton and Omega (surely others) have that style so it must be time for a CW Railmaster (although they can't now call it the Loco!) and as I work on the railways I'd definitely be getting me one.
EDIT: Mondaine, of course!

Re: Freewheelin’
Really enjoyed the documentary, so much so that I watched it twice (yesterday and again today). Was fascinating to see the design process and decisions behind the launch, and also put the names to the faces.
I like the new movement and love the exhibition caseback but with no seconds hand, no date, no power reserve, tiny dial, a manual wind and an integrated strap, it's yet another arty but functionally deficient CW that I won't be going anywhere near. And that's absolutely fine, I still appreciate the effort that went into making this watch.
However, it does seem to be more of a "hey, look what we can do" technical achievement which is competitively priced to attract more customers to the brand with America, Asia and Middle East being key target markets according to the documentary. Wishing CW all success with this and hoping some of the profits can be ploughed back into making more functional tool watches.

Re: Freewheelin’
Really enjoyed watching the documentary (even if it was a bit of an extended marketing piece!) Great to see @Kip and Brian there especially!
The Loco looks fantastic, and it's nice to build a little story around it and CW pushing the boundaries a bit. Looking forward to seeing what else they come up with using the improved CW-00x movements!

Re: Freewheelin’
Really enjoyed it. Even though I had a suspicion it'd be a watch out of my price range, and not the sort of thing I'm in the market for at the moment, I was fascinated to see what they'd come up with, I was completely immersed for days in the speculation and excitement, and I admire the creativity and craft of the end product. I hope all who pick one up fall in love with it.
We're lucky that the company affords its customers and fans this insight - carefully curated as the insight may be - into how the watch was developed. It's marketing, sure, but it's marketing I'm very happy to be "subjected to", and how many other marketing campaigns can I say that about? As a sign of how much it's sparked my own interest, it motivated me to pick up a copy of George Daniel's "All in good time" (second hand and mint condition!), which I'm looking forwards to delving into.
All power to the company and it's exciting to think that the next big thing is likely in the works already.
