I would prefer that CW spend their time developing great watches, providing great customer service and thorough quality control rather than making self indulgent documentaries...

However, maybe these things aren't mutually exclusive, I'm not sure.

From a marketing view this has been a success even before launch. Their trailer video has 2.1m views on YouTube compared to their regular videos which normally have less than 10k. How they have driven that amount of traffic i don't know!

Forgive the potentially stupid question, but the documentary will be available on CW’s YouTube channel after its premier, right? This isn’t just a once and down showing, I assume.

I would assume that you are right, Drew. However, as you know, there is kudos attached to watching these things en première. Be there or be square.

Good question Drew!

I hope and assume that it will. Two CW events in one evening may be one too many. :)

Assume someone will confirm. After all if it is a documentary, seems logical that it will stay up for viewing on YouTube.

I imagine we can all expect to receive at least one marketing email per week linking to it for the for the next few months!

I'm quite surprised, with over 2m views of the trailer, that (15 minutes in) YouTube tells me there are only just over 900 people watching the documentary.

That’s probably because the average goldfish doesn’t manage 15 minutes.

I wound up turning it off about 15 minutes into it. It just didn’t hold my interest. Helluva watch, though!

That, Drew, was a shame. You would have spotted Guy get his 1/10th of a second of fame if you'd stayed for the British Watchmaker's day bit.

I think you have the answer to your own concern there...
I see CW as being inexpensive comparatively - not absolutely
So, when their watches are compared against similar, they are inexpensive - sticking to lower overhead methods of sale and a fixed 1:3 ratio for markup - however that doesn't preclude their playing in several price brackets. i think the days of their offering the very low end prices are over (cheap £130 - £300 quartz watches with a japanese or chinese movement being the current market trend in those lower price options), but as long as they continue to play with several options below £1k (and they have quartz at sub £600 / autos at sub £700 - and regular sales!) then I don't feel that they are abandoning the normal market by also producing watches like these...

in fact you could argue that the production of the Loco / Bel Canto / moonphases / etc. all lift the reputation of CW and make their other watches seem even better value.
