Forum LE Update

Post by CFK-OB »

For those of you waiting on the second run of the forum LE, I mailed Margaret yesterday for an update. She has advised that it is looking like the middle of March for the ship date.

sorry, no more left! Chris said that he is waiting on ETA delivering the movement and then he can assemble the next batch. I was told mid to end of March.

Hans, Chris

The FORUM has too much marketing potential to make it just a Limited Edition. I’m still waiting for my C5 to arrive and already I want a FORUM. You can put me on the list if there’s still room.

The FORUM should be its own special line of CW watches with dial color choices and they must be all automatic. This watch could knock the Seamaster off the shelf if given a chance. If you cant get 2824’s order stock 2892’s. It would add only 100 bucks to the original cost.

I tell you what: Sell me the case dial and hands. I know where I can buy a stock 2824 and I’ll put it in myself….

Isn't the point of a limited edition the attraction that it is limited? Even in dollars, a hundred bucks is quite a lot of money to me, a poor old Brit... UB

So I've now seen two different posts - one saying they will be delivered this month, and one saying that they are delayed - anyone know which is right?

David,

When I spoke to Margaret by phone yesterday, Chris was in Switzerland trying to get the movements. She expected the watches to ship very soon.

However, shortly before I made my last post I received an email from Wera that said the watches would be delayed:

"As you will already know the order you have with us requires the use of a 2824-2 Automatic movement from ETA in Switzerland. Chris has just returned from Switzerland with the news that the expected delivery of movements for Mid March has been put back to mid-May…which means we can only despatch your order around the end of May/first week of June. The delays are unfortunately largely out of our control and are as a result of high demand and shortage of supply worldwide.

If this delivery date causes you problems…or you wish to swap or cancel your order please let us know either by emailing me on this address or calling our customer Service team "

[EDIT] It's possible that low numbers are indeed ready for shipment. I have number 98, so it's possible that number 55 mentioned above will ship out soon, while those of us in the late digits will have to wait. I'm alright with waiting, as I have several watches waiting on me as it is

hmmm - that doesn't bode well for the LE or for any other new designs being discussed.

Would be good to get some sort of official statement from Chris on this.

I go along with this statement to.

We do seem to be kept in the dark a bit.

I know we are privileged enough as things are to get to see the prototypes and stuff and get a greater insight as to what's happening within CWL then any other watch company but because of that we do get somewhat excited about forth coming releases and then dates get changed.

After all, most of us are like boys waiting for a new toy .

I appreciate that Chris must be fighting like mad with the damn Swiss over allocation of auto movements but maybe through Hans he could let us know how things are going then we could maybe all calm down a bit.

We got the official statement from Chris (at least carman and I did) in the email carman posted. I think if you had an order placed for anything with an automatic movement, you probably should have received the email as well. So if you didn't, you might want to follow up with CW. Man, I sympathize with Chris on this. It has got to be very difficult for him (and the other watchmakers relying on ETA) to run a business this way.

It seems crazy to me that another Swiss company has not started producing Swiss movements. And speaking of this, I heard Jim Skelton on ShopNBC say a couple weeks ago that Selita got purchased/acquired and their movements were going to start getting controlled (and I think monopolized) by the parent company. Seems like an ideal business opportunity for the right company.

Yes I received the mail. I sympathise, as I'm sure this is losing Chris lots of business.

But - given that a week ago everything seemed fine, why should we have any more confidence that the movements will turn up - that's where a little more context from Chris would be useful.

As an aside, I've seen from his interview that Chris has avoided posting on the forum on the basis of keeping it's independence. Personally, I'd welcome the odd authoratitive post from Chris every so often.

Cheers
David
