Re: Flying with Watches
I've managed to get my travel 'wardrobe' down to 3 watches, so I wear one, and put the other 2 in a simple leather 3 watch 'roll', hold on, why 3 watch roll? Well, you never know what you might pick up on your travels (just post the box and papers back).

Re: Flying with Watches
When I travel I use a two watch case in my hand luggage and wear a watch so three watches is my maximum.

Re: Flying with Watches
I tend to keep it simple and usually stick to one watch on the wrist and one in an Oakley watch vault in my hand-luggage, as noted above.
It's worth knowing that the Casebuddi version of the Oakley vaults is still available via Amazon but finding the Oakleys can be a bit hit-and-miss. The Casebuddi is also a little cheaper too.

Re: Flying with Watches
Agree with Avo - I wear one and have the other two in their own Oakley Watch vaults. ALWAYS have them in my carry on luggage.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote:Limit yourself to 3 or 4, wear two as suggested and put the others in Oakley Watch Vaults in your hand luggage.
If, that is, you can survive for a month with 4 watches?

I generally bring 2 on holidays with me, one one the wrist and one in a longines travel case in the hand luggage.

Re: Flying with Watches
I am Down Under for two months, endorse everything said. Wore my GMT to fly, carried El Primero in a padded envelope in hand luggage, for all of those reasons. Spot on!

Re: Flying with Watches
This is very true, Steve. I guess most people aren't watch obsessed lunatics like most of us on here! I travel wearing my Ball Fireman and throw my C6 in my cabin baggage just in case I feel the need to change watches mid flight. I'm going away for Christmas and will probably bring three watches with me...bit excessive really but you all know how it is....Amor Vincit Omnia wrote:I spent 3 weeks abroad with one watch a couple of years ago. Re: Flying with Watches
IME, UK Customs are not he problem -- the Aussies can be. I have made the trip a dozen times now, and the only problems I ever had were from our colonial chums channelling their inner East German border guard. That said, a watch that is not made or sold in Australia and is clearly used (don't take one with a brand-new strap!) should not present any problems.Helix Von Smelix wrote:Also find customs as you EXIT the UK. Have a chat to them. Let them know your a watch "nut" and taking these watches with you on Hols. Tell them when you are returning. Just to save any issues at either end of your journey. Take photo copies of any invoices you have.
But the best thing is to chat to UK customs, so they can "count them all out, and count them all back"
I have done that, and the same chaps were waiting for me on my return. They mainly took the **** (main UK pass time) and waved me on my way.
Here's another thought for your consideration, though: had you thought about buying a watch while Downunder? Selection may not be the greatest in the world, but not only can merchants be persuaded to offer discounts (I got 15% off on a Cartier in Sydney), on top of that you save yourself the 10% Australian VAT (aka "GST"). This can make for interesting prices.

Re: Flying with Watches
i rarely travel with more than two. i brought several for thanksgiving with my dad so i could show him. wore the AT (most expensive by far) and kept the others in a travel case or two in my carry on. i wouldn't put them in anything else. and it was my backpack going under the seat in front of me, not the wheelie in the overhead.
the "g" is for Greg...
Re: Flying with Watches
Hand held luggage is the way to go. You don't need a watch box, just something as simple as a tea towel, or put each watch in a fresh sock?
Re: Flying with Watches
Do yourself a favour take one good one for wearing at night, and buy a throw away £5 piece of digital crap for battering around with and don't be bothered if it gets mangled
You've worked hard all year chill take a rest from the stress , worrying about watches!
You can do that all year round.
Have a good one mate.
