My first watch was also a hand wound Timex and I would also have been about 8. Funnily enough I also had problems with the watch and was also told it was because I had too much electricity in my body  .

The next watch I remember having was a black LED watch (Casio I think) then a silver LCD (also Casio) and then I had a black LCD Casio with a calculator built in  . This takes me to my late teens and the end of the seventies.

SteveH talking about the Casio calculator watch reminded me that i had a Casio watch with built in remote control that turned the TV channels.
Had some great fun in our works canteen when the guys were trying to watch sport on telly and i was pushing buttons and turning the channel over. They never had a clue.
Hard not to laugh with guys cussing and swearing because thay had to keep turning it back.
Had loads of fun with family and friends with it to.

Just thinking about Timex since a few of us seem to have started with them (says something abut age group, Timex seemed very popular back in the 70's), My missus has an ancient hand wound timex that she still wears for gardening in; the leather strap is almost worn through, but the watch show no sign of any problems. I asked her how old it was and she reckons about 30 years. In that time it's never been to a jewellers and is left in a drawer for long period of time. Makes you wonder... :? It probably cost less than 20 quid at the time.

[quote="flashman"] It was the bog standard G10 Quartz, I think the make was CWS if I remember accurately.

It was actually CWC.

Took me a little while to find this, but here's yours truly, receiving my first watch on my 8th Bday.

I can't recall what make, but it was definitely a hand wind. Looks like a diver too! I'll have to ask my pops if he recalls what brand it was.

A Timex bought for me by my parents as a kid. I think the first one I bought myself was a Limit quartz LED watch in the mid 1970s

Are you sure it wasn't a Liquid Christal? Not saying they never made one but I've never seen an LED display on a watch. It would use up too much battery unless it only displayed when a button was pushed or somthing.

There was, they all were, and you're right, 'unless it only displayed when a button was pushed or something.' They did and they were pretty tiny, and, if you look around, they're back ....UB
