First CW — Need Help Choosing
Hi everyone, I’m looking to pick up my first Christopher Ward and I’ve narrowed it down to three choices but I’m having a heck of a time choosing which one to go with. A little background… I recently won $1250. It was money I didn’t plan on having and don’t necessarily NEED, so I’m splurging on something fun that I otherwise wouldn’t have been buying. That being said, my current small collection includes some dress watches that I dress down so I can wear them often and then a cheap but fun diver. I’m looking to add a nicer diver to my collection to wear when I’m wearing sweats or jeans and a t-shirt/hoodie. I’m looking at the C60 Trident Pro 300 on a consort bracelet in either black or white at 38mm, the C60 Trident GMT 300 in blue on a consort bracelet, or the C60 Pro 300 Bronze with the Blue Ombré on leather.
Pros on the C60 Trident Pro for me are price, light catcher case, size (I have a 6.75” wrist), versatile with different straps, and the bracelet, which I really like. Cons are that it’s a little boring.
Pros on the GMT are I get a dive watch and a GMT in one, I like the thinner bezel on a GMT, light catcher case, bracelet and the colors make for a good summer watch. Cons are price (especially with tax and import fees as I’m in the US) and I’m not sure if it has a little bit of a plastic look in person, so I’d love to hear feedback from all of you on that.
Pros for the bronze are I love the blue ombré dial, which I think it will pop more as it patinas, COSC, also I plan to get an Omega No Time To Die at some point and this will never be in competition with that since it’s so different. I’m also not sure if the patina of the bronze will get old to me. I used to LOVE bronze watches but never owned one. Now I find myself preferring the new bronze look. However, since this is fun money and this model is the most different of all of them I’m sort of tempted to say get something less safe since it’s fun money anyway. Cons are size and it comes on just a plain leather or rubber strap. I do love leather and rubber straps but they aren’t as nice as the consort. The biggest con to me is that it seems like the light catcher case would be totally wasted on this model since the patina will hide the contrast between the brushed and polished metals. I could always remove the patina but isn’t that half the fun?
I would love to hear from anyone who has one or more of these as I’ve never seen a CW in person so I don’t know how they wear or what they look like in person.
Pic collage attached so you don’t have to go looking.

Re: First CW — Need Help Choosing
Welcome and congratulations on choosing a great watch brand.
Of course the answer is pick the one you like the look of most and fits best with your intended use and personal tastes. While I don’t own any of the models you’ve called out, I have tried all of them on and you won’t go wrong with any of them. So follow your gut.
But, since you asked for advice… I’ll give two opinions:
- Which one would I buy myself? The bronze. Because I have several other black dive watches that the Pro 300 wouldn’t compete against and I’m not the biggest fan of the GMT.
- Which one do I think best fits your brief? The Pro 300 black or white dial since I think it’s a better staple in a smaller collection and the most versatile for a variety of wears, even if a little ‘boring’.
The one question I have though… the GMT is 40mm and the bronze is 42mm, both case sizes which the Pro 300 also comes in, yet you’ve leaned towards the 38mm there. Why is that? If it’s a preference for a smaller case size then they might also help you answer your conundrum.
Best,
TB

Welcome to the forum / asylum.
Hope you stick around and have some fun.
As to your conundrum as to which watch to chose? You ought not go wrong with any of them, although personally, whilst I like GMT watches, I'm not a fan of the currently available colourways on the C60 Pro 300 GMT.
Size wise, I'll echo TB's comment and ask what sizes do you currently have and like wearing?
With a 6.75" wrist you ought to be good for the 40mm, as well as 38mm, C60 Pro 300 as the lug-2-lug is conservatively short (arguably a more important metric than case width).
Good luck with your decision making.

Hello and welcome.
If you like the GMT and want water resistance but are not so bothered about an actual dive bezel, the C63 Sealander GMT would be an option. Very versatile and reliable.

This is what I love about this forum (and I mean this in a genuine non-sarcastic way): struggling to choose between three options so throw in a fourth!Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 11:33 am If you like the GMT and want water resistance but are not so bothered about an actual dive bezel, the C63 Sealander GMT would be an option. Welcome
You can't go wrong with any including 4th that got recommended.
I would stick with "boring"for a first CW. The trident pro 300 in white. It is extremely versatile and is a strap monster. It can be dressed up, casual and everything inbetween.
The black cw is feels more derivative and is a little too glossy, for me.

Re: First CW — Need Help Choosing
Thanks so much for your response. I have a 41mm, 40 mm, 36 mm, and a 26mm (first luxury watch from 20 years ago and it was right before or just right around the time women started wearing larger watches — at least from my recollection) in my normal rotation, so a 40 would be completely fine for me. Honestly, even the 42 would be fine but could look a little large depending upon how it wears. I’ve tried on the NTTD and it looks fine on me. I think I like the idea of a 38mm because I thought my current 36mm would be too small but I actually really like the look of it. I figured it might be more versatile to dress up or down but I’m pretty flexible on size, so it’s not a huge component but definitely a consideration.timepieces_and_bags wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 9:14 am

Since you’ve tried them all one, does the bronze wear big or small? Also, do you think the light catcher case is sort of wasted with the patina?

I did look at this one and I do really like the green dial. However, I’m not a huge fan of steal bezels on a dive watch. I also would like one that rotates, so I ended eliminating this one in the search but I do agree that it is very versatile.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 11:33 am Hello and welcome.

These are all really good points. I’ll add this to my list of pros for the white Trident Pro 300. Thanks!chif123 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 2:38 pm Welcome

Re: First CW — Need Help Choosing
I think the bronze wears pretty big. I have a 17.5cm (approx. 6.9" wrist) and although this is a bit of a closeup shot which always makes watches appear bigger, it is pretty large.Rose141414 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 3:58 pm

Maybe it's because I'm not so used to bronze, but I feel that on a like-for-like basis, bronze always appears a little bigger than steel as well, so the black or white dial Pro 300 42mm would perhaps appear slightly smaller even though the case dimensions are identical. Perhaps just my skew on it though.

Re: First CW — Need Help Choosing
TLDR: Purchase the blue with orange accents 38mm TP300 on consort because that seems to be what you want based on your post.Rose141414 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 6:52 am A little background… I recently won $1250. I would love to hear from anyone who has one or more of these as I’ve never seen a CW in person so I don’t know how they wear or what they look like in person.
Long version:
I am going to be the voice of reason...
- If you won the money and may owe taxes, put 30-40% in the bank to save for tax time.
- If you will not owe taxes, put the money towards your retirement and/or savings, pay down debt, pay down mortgage, start an emergency fund, etc.
Now, if you truly DO NOT NEED the money...
- Do you really need a GMT or do you want one because they are on-trend right now?
- Traveler or Office GMT (Google to learn the difference)? When I travelled a great deal for work and a GMT was my only watch I had a Traveler GMT but now that I no longer travel for work and do not need a GMT watch I own an Office GMT watch. The TP300GMT is an office GMT watch.
- The black or white TP300 watches are fantastic but who really needs another black or white diver watch?
- The bronze is fantastic and the blue dial is really interesting but you already stated that you may not like the patina (which can mostly be cleaned off but is a big pain to do it). at 42mm I think it will wear too big for you and this is coming from a person with a 7.75" wrist who often wears 42mm watches. Straps are easy to change so do not get hung up on stock straps.
So, my advice is...
- Go look through the archives on this forum and you will see lots of real life pics.
- If you can pull off a 40mm which most people do, there are so many more dial variations to choose from.
- Do not get the consort bracelet because you already have dress watches and diver watches are meant to be sporty and should be on a rubber strap or the bader (oyster style) bracelet. The consort makes a watch "dressier" and why it is often paired with the C63 Sealander or Trident Pro 300GMT.
Re: First CW — Need Help Choosing
Hello,
Last month I purchased the C60 Trident Pro 300 White 42mm. (My wrist is 7 1/8"). I found there wasn't enough dial contrast and the lume wasn't as strong as I thought. I exchanged it for a Black dial and that solved both issues. The lume appears brighter on a dark dial.
Since you want to dress down the watch and wear with sweats and jeans, the Consort bracelet is the wrong one. It's too "blingy"/dressy compared to the Bader bracelet in my opinion.
You mentioned that the GMT has a slimmer bezel, but I think they are the same. Actually, my biggest complaint about the C60 Trident Pro 300 is the bezel looking too thin and out of proportion for the dial. I wish the bezel was slightly thicker.
Which one should you get? I would suggest the C60 Pro Bronze w/Ombre Blue dial. It is the most "fun" and unique. It looks great and according to your wants and needs, this is the one that checks all boxes and the bonus it is a Chronometer.

Re: First CW — Need Help Choosing
I love my Bronze limited edition divers, I love that it changes colour after a clean, I don't even mind cleaning it, a cup of tea whilst dunking it in lemon juice and baking soda with my wife's tooth brush (for gawds sake don't tell her!) makes it a watch that changes for the price of one. I have bought further straps for it which again change it for whatever the occasion.
Not so keen on the blue face myself, as mine has a "distressed" brown one. But it's great we are all different.
Enjoy the purchase of whatever you decide on

My answer. Hold on to that $1,250, you'll be over 10% closer to getting that Omega NTTD.
