Will someone please explain why these straps use different buckles. Is it based on the model it is meant to be with?
(also one looks straight and one looks tapered)
Different buckles on same leather strap

Re: Fine Italian vs Vacona Leather and different deployant buckles
The one on the left is the traditional steel Bader buckle, currently only available in 20mm.
The one on the right is the new upgraded #2 Titanium Bader buckle introduced for the Bel Canto Classic and the stronger taper to 16mm.

But the description states "steel" and both are 20mm. I purposely only included the steel listings (and omitted the 22mm titanium ones).Bahnstormer_vRS wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 4:56 pm The one on the left is the traditional steel Bader buckle, currently only available in 20mm.

The one on the right is the new brushed stainless steel. The one on the left is a previous version.

There you go then, I'd only looked at the picture of the buckles (on the small screen of my phone) and not the material nor the strap width.nycWATCHnerd wrote:But the description states "steel" and both are 20mm. The #2 Bader was first introduced in Titanium on a 22mm taper to 16mm strap for the Bel Canto Classic.
From your pic it appears that CW are rolling it out on 20mm straps and in steel for the buckle.
Nice.

A little more digging shows they are meant for the C1 Moonphase 40mm and C1 Moonphase 37mm. I assume like many things this was a running production change as they both now list the newer strap part number.

Re: Different buckles on same leather strap
It's hard to be sure, but all of mine (signed and unsigned) look like the one on the left (in your post). I don't have any like the one on the right.
Some straps tapered from 20mm to 18mm, so the clasp in that case has a gap of 18mm. Some are straight, so the clasp is 20mm.
See these 2 - The one on the left (blue leather) is from an older 20/18. The one on the right was just received and is 20/20. Obviously you can only see the clasp here.
I note the other explanations about the different straps.

Re: Different buckles on same leather strap
There's much fun to be had swapping buckles about: it gets compulsive for me when I come across a strap I like the look of but it comes with a buckle bige enough to use as a stirrup on a full sized 'orse.

Re: Different buckles on same leather strap
I believe this is what has happened.
The one on the left was the supplied strap on the Moonphase prior to the recent intro of the smaller 37 model. 20-MAS-01-SXB-BB-ST.
At this point both the existing 40 and the new 37 got the new version, on the right. 20-MAS-02-SXB-BB-ST.
You can buy both straps separately. The 01 is £100, the 02 is £125.
I did a 3-for-2 strap order before Xmas and had to decide between these two. Went for the 01, simply because it was £25 less.
