Re: Fears collaboration
The more I look at the offerings from Fears, the more I like them. I’m not so fond of the collaboration, but the rest of the line up is top notch!

Re: Fears collaboration
The review came up on my phone selections page -not sure what the technical term is - and I had a look as I'd seen this thread on the CWF. Thanks for posting. I was very impressed with the images.bradjhomes wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 3:33 pmYes - only goes up to 12. Same as the old CW Jump Hours.JAFO wrote:I do like that Fears. I just had to find a review, as I didn't understand it. I thought the number at the top was a date, and now I see it's the hour, which I presume only goes up to 12, as the review didn't go past 12.
Anyway, I like the watch, but not £4000 worth of liking.
Maybe it's the colour I like, as it reminds me of the Heritage 57 Speedy in the deep red.
Here's the review, on oracle time, posted yesterday.

And I’m glad you chose that review to post (which I wrote)

In the light of your last comment, I read the review again carefully, was still impressed, and I will keep my eye open for more of your insights.

Re: Fears collaboration
horses for courses, but I wouldn't buy one based on the looks alone at any price...
Re: Fears collaboration
I see it as just an indication/acknowledgement that the movement was licensed from (or provided by) CW, if you will.NationOfLaws wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 2:44 pm And does the swish logo on the lug mean that Christopher Ward has finally admitted defeat on the rebrand and has decided to sell the logo to another brand, clearing the way for the Chr. You need to recognise the logo as belonging to CW of course, although I'm sure buyers would do.

Re: Fears collaboration
It seems to me that many watches created to make money for the 'Alliance', will by default, be of benefit to the Swiss watch industry as well, simply because of this whole 'British heart / Swiss hardware' thing that many 'British' brands like to promote.OllyW wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 2:53 pm No, that's a limited edition watch to raise money for the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers.

Re: Fears collaboration
Of course, but as the ‘profit’ a goes to the alliance, that’s presumably quite a big share no matter which nation’s companies also benefit.Caller wrote:It seems to me that many watches created to make money for the 'Alliance', will by default, be of benefit to the Swiss watch industry as well, simply because of this whole 'British heart / Swiss hardware' thing that many 'British' brands like to promote.OllyW wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 2:53 pm No, that's a limited edition watch to raise money for the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers.

Re: Fears collaboration
Out of curiosity, does the alliance have a definition for what constitutes a British watchmaker, or even brand?

Re: Fears collaboration
My guess…
Minimum of substantive design work carried out in Britain, with at least some employees based here?

Re: Fears collaboration
^^^ I had the same questions, and couldn't find much on their site except for this:
"As our sector’s official trade body, we represent by far the majority of watch and clock making brands trading across the British Isles (including the Republic of Ireland)."

Re: Fears collaboration
Thanks, I wonder what rules are in place - Dti perhaps - that determines whether an alliance has the right to become an 'official trade body'?
