Well, I'd have tried to be more tactful, but........... :)

If the Sub is the watch for you, go out and get one. You will know it is a real one, and that's all that matters. :)
totally agree with this ,anyone that says its fake is an idiot(or just ignorant)or very envious ,at the end of the day you know its real that's all that matters, if you do purchase one good luck to you !

The thing with a Sub is that it has been around for 50 odd years and is iconic. While on watch forums people will know the ins and outs of the models the man on the street will not and probably thing that a Sea Dweller and Deep Sea are the the same model. And being iconic and costing thousands it is a natural target for the replica (read counterfeiters) makers. If you buy from an AD then it will be genuine and you will get a shiny new watch. And they do seem to keep their value. On the 2nd hand market there are good sellers around and on a Forum like TZ-UK or one of the Rolex forums they would soon out a fake. As I have never had a Rolex I don't know if they do checks but I know Breitling and Omega will check your watch to ensure that it is genuine. For a small fee of course.

As people have said - buy what you feel comfortable with.
