Doh! The Twelve Halo DOES have indices...

Post by Noush »

Funny how some things get hidden in plain sight.
I love the look of it but I'm a stickler for indices. But if an index is a marker for the hour, then the twelve-sided bezel gets it done.
Middle of each 'flat' is the hour point, and we're good. The rest I can work out quick enough, more or less. Perhaps I was a bit slow on the uptake :)
So much better than an octagon. :)
Seconds hands mean 'signs of life' to me but hey if I really need to know, the escape wheel is there....

Looking at this with different eyes now. I do prefer the understatement of the rubber though.

When this thing launched, I was thinking that the bezel should be turned slightly so the points would be at the hour markers

Fixing the Halo

IMO, CW made a number of errors on this design.

Agree the bezel should have been rotated.

But also the logo should be slightly higher, and they should have deleted all the text (both, as I did on the VULCAN XII).

They should have used a stone dial, to give it a more interesting texture e.g. onyx. Or perhaps a vanta black dial.

Lose the lume on the hands. It's not a tool watch.

Finally, release the above version in the larger size.

Onyx? yuk!
All Onyx is fit for is aggregate to make the roads grippier. 😆

Dress watches aren't normally for me but this looks nice just as it is.

Pure black polished onyx would suit it IMO.

But it could be a different black stone dial, or as I mentioned, vanta black. Just something more interesting than a normal painted black dial.

It does seem to have fine grain vertical texture on the dial. How that plays out in the metal and different angles in the light, dunno.

I also think it looks better on a strap. But rubber?? On a dress watch??? I say no...

Personally I wear dress watches in all sorts of circumstances so rubber works just fine. But I also understand a different point of view.

It just shows how we all view things differently…

I don’t view the middle of each of the 12 edges of the bezel as an indices. I think trying to use them to tell the time I would end up taking longer to work it out than…

Just glancing at the position of the hands on the dial. :)

Agreed. The geometry is inbuilt in most of us through long usage, and if you need seconds for your bus/train/boiled eggs or whatever, it’s probably not the watch to be wearing. “-ISH” time, however, that’s another matter. :D

For me this was really an exercise in how we can see things differently, revelatory moments, that kind of thing.
I've had a few such (different) things with watches over the years.

I'm still more 'comfortable' with at least hour markers even if in fact they are not really needed as such.
So neither Halo nor C1 Moonphase interest me even if I see the appeal for others.
