All my CWs are pre 2018 - preceding when I got hooked. But since then I have not been convinced. Despite some temptation, the left justified logo at nine turned me off many models, while some design details precluded others eg lack of date. I persevere in hope.....

It could have been me that wrote the above - my most recent purchase direct from CW is from January 2015, although I bought a 2016 C60 Trident GMT from Wyatt this year that was like a new watch and bracelet.

Some more recent releases would have tempted me (e.g. a white 40mm MkIII Trident, the Blue Marine) but for the logo at 9 and others have had a design feature that wasn't quite right IMO and so didn't quite suit me sufficiently to purchase (e.g. C65 Chrono). But I also persevere in hope as the new cases are much better than the early days straight side cases that were a bit slab-like at times.

The "logo" has divided opinion on more than one occasion. Archive reference

I hadn't thought much about the v. 1 logo, to be honest. It was just there. No positive or negative reaction.

v. 2A (CHR. WARD) and especially 2B with "LONDON" added were always my favourites.

However, for some members this was a long-term deal breaker. As was the 2016 change to the current v. 3

I was initially anti the new one, and got involved with all the "hipster" nonsense at the time.

I have totally accepted it now, and have no problem wearing it. But...I'd go back to v. 2B without hesitation if I could.

Agreed on the new cases, very tempting. We'll get there......the Super Compressor (but for lack of date) would have tipped me over.

My last CW was the C60 Trident vintage. The all black version. I did love it. I sold it in preparation of bringing in another and it never happened.

Was tempted by the Abyss and then the SH21 abyss but couldn’t bring myself to spend £2k on it. But the C65 SC Deep Blue has really turned my head. Have a feeling that may be my purchase for 2021

The period before the last logo change was in place when I first came across the brand. It just feels to me that influences how you feel about the brand when you first discover it. I liked a lot of what they were doing then even if my first CW, the Bluebird, lost its allure as I decided I really don't like quartz and it went to a new home on here.

The 2nd that is still with me, is the C60 Vintage Trident with the matt black dial and matt ceramic bezel, that just appealed to me from the off. It's 5 years old now and still gets worn regularly. There were several others that I was considering at that time.

With the new logo came the so called disruptive period and by and large it has left me cold. I now feel the company would sell their granny to make a sale and the original ethos of the company is a thing of the past. On saying that, I have just bought my 3rd CW, which has come as something of a shock. But it's not going back. I'll write about that in a few days.

I'm definitely influenced by my discovery of the brand and the CW line up back in 2012. It was a real period of discovery and introduction to outstanding value, 'proper' watches. My interest was also fuelled by an enthusiastic and vibrant Forum.
I can't put a period on it, but there were a few years where the line up didn't appeal so much. I must say that there are some great CW watches out now and the range over the last 18 months includes innovation and quality and there are a number of watches that get my interest.
Whilst the range is good, I agree with the sentiment that the company has changed over the years and is harder to associate with.

I think Steve pretty much nailed the logo changes. I would have said I preferred V1, until I purchased a V2B logo'ed C60. After wearing that I would say that it is my favourite. The V1 logo does not have a mature look to it, although it is fine. 2/3 of my CW collection have V1 logos. There is nothing wrong with it, but V2B looks more refined on the wrist. I absolutely did not like V3when it was released. I still don't love it. However, after buying a C60 Mk2 bronze with the V3 logo, I have found that I can live happily with it. Maybe I'd feel different on another model. I don't know, but on the one V3 I own, it's fine.
Despite the strong feelings many have towards V3, I can count the number of comments I've received on the logo or placement when showing the C60 Bronze on one hand, and have 5 fingers left over.

^^^Interesting analysis, Chris. “Refined” is a good way to describe 2B. :D

Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: Tue Dec 22, 2020 5:53 pm I have a theory about this...the "Good Old Days" Theory.

By no means everyone does, but I feel that quite a lot of people feel an attachment for how things were when they first encountered the brand.

Technically and perhaps stylistically, products might have improved out of all recognition, but there is a sort of antebellum feeling that the grass was greener, the sheep were fatter, the wine was sweeter and glorious summer days lasted for ever.

Do fish and chips in a fancy gastro-pub ever taste as good as the ones you ate from newspaper on the seafront 50 years ago?
Moving slightly off topic but I’ve had this same theory for years about music. I find that the album I discover a band or musician through tends to stay my favourite, even if it’s not actually their best record.

Now I accept that a lot of people, myself included, tend to discover new music through someone’s more popular back catalogue. This can make my theory somewhat of a self fulfilling prophecy. However there are many bands I like where my favourite album isn’t usually the critics choice.

There are exceptions to this rule but they are few and far between.

Fish, chips and a pennyworth of scrumps eaten from a newspaper takes me back.

The trouble was I spent most of the time getting rid of the bones before I could start to enjoy the fish.

I can also remember Stan the Chippy standing in front of the fryers with a woodbine stuck permanently in his mouth with the ash dropping occasionally into the seldom changed fat.

Do you have a favorite time period for C.W. watches

Post by gaf1958 »

The following photo of my CW box shows that of 18 CWs (yes 18, one is missing from the box), 11 are of the early period, C6, C600, MkI Malverns, a C15 - rounding out the 11 is the one from the the empty spot - my C1 Russell sitting on my desk awaiting a battery change...

The others are a mix from various later periods. So there’s a smattering of MkI, MkII and MkIII logos. I may also have the odd extra CW floating around in other boxes...
