Here are a few links, after a quick search, that should keep you occupied for a bit.

Interesting reading... ignored the ones I can't afford...
Liked your review of CWLs ... quiet is a requirement... in a fairly small house now and can't sleep with noise... is there any way to do say 12 hours active 12 off... guess could do with a timer tween winder and plug in..

Scooter - does bashing your quartz with a hammer amount to snobbery?...UB

Bought my father an Omega Seamaster Professional Quartz for his 70th. It's a lovely watch and he loves it, I got him the blue face. Wouldn't mind one myself.

I wouldnt buy an Auto at all, just have no interest at all with whats going on 'inside' the watch.
As long as it looks good, is accurate, and reliable, its in the frame as far as I'm concerned, I much prefer the 'go-to' reliability of Quartz, not to mention the reduced cost of servicing, and the much reduced risk of problems if knocked or dropped.

I have several (>5, <10) quartz watches but they're not part of my collection. So yes, I could maybe be characterized as a snob about mechanical watches. Seriously, its just a gut thing. I can not explain why my response to quartzes is "meh". They have amazing accuracy/technology, beauty and the price is always better. I do like my ecodrives. They're incredibly accurate and no battery that I'll need to worry about in my lifetime. But still, they're just not part of "the collection" when I talk about watches. I honestly haven't looked in on them in the drawer in months.

There's some very nice watches on both sides of the camp.

I don't think that one can be termed as being "better" than another. It's like comparing cats and dogs. Some people are cat people, some prefer dogs, some don't mind either. There's no such thing as a "quartz snob", or a "auto snob", they're both just snobs as far as I'm concerned.

It just comes down to personal choice.

Hell no UB

I would describe it as expressing a preference.

I was advised to get a Quarts for my dad as he is not that active. I was told that an Auto would be a problem as it would never be wound. Was this good advice then? This was given to me by an Omega AD.

About a third of my collection are quartz, keep saying I will not buy any more....
Got my eye on one of the new Seiko Solar chronographs, they make great holiday watches no need to worry about an auto being 2 or 3 minutes out at the end of a couple of weeks. :D
No more Quartz (except when I cannot resist).

I prefer mechanical movements, but I have a CWL C3 which I really enjoy wearing (and it gets a lot of interest) and a recently bought Fossil Decker chrono which I bought out of curisosity. It too, is a nice watch though I'll soon give it away to one of my nephews. I'm not snobby about quartz, but just prefer mechanical. I've never grown bored of the genius of such high standard engineering effectively miniaturised!

Cheers,
Jack.

I've got loads of quartz watches and quite a few mechanicals and without a doubt, my favourite is my Omega SMP "Bond" quartz. It looks great, keeps awesome time, is comfortable and always ready to wear. So glad I bought this one after giving Lorn the mid-size as it is truly an "all time great".

I don't seem to have a lot of luck with autos (witness my FLE) and I think they are unreliable and fragile compared to quartz. Yes, I will continue to buy mechs in preference to Quartz but only now because of their greater re-sale value for if (when) I flip them. If it's a "keeper" then I really don't care.
