I think it is just the light. If you look at my pics of my C7SSS you can see that there is an angle between the outer and inner rings so the light reflects differently.

My Malvern is a C5GBG

You can see that there is an inner and outer ring at different heights on the C5 and even on the black it shows different shades depending on how the light hits it. In fact one of the pics has the dial looking brown!
