Dial Color
Dial Color
Is it me, or is beautifully colored dial makes a watch much more enjoyable. I have to commend Christopher Ward on some of their dial colors. While Black is present on most lines and is universal, the Kingfisher dial colors just blow me away. They are bound to get noticed. Yes, I know that horological enthusiasts are supposed to be focused on movements, but beautiful dial that is not white or black can make the watch just so much fun.
I love the cream color on my C5SWT. It's rich enough to get noticed, and yet conservative enough for a dress watch. I'm a big fan of Hell's Kitchen series and Gordon Ramsay nowdays wears a watch with similar colored dial which stands out beatifully. I think that particular one is Bell&Ross Vinatage with cream dial, but from a distance the dial color is the first thing that I noticed about the watch on Hell's Kitchen last season.

Re: Dial Color
I've got silver, gold, blue, black, green, cream and white dialed watches. They all look good but I "need" the red Trident...

Re: Dial Color
Not just color, what about textures? What do you like in that department? As is obvious that I have the C700 with the carbon fiber face. I nerve here much about the 700. I guess I’m the only one who likes the watch. It’s almost becoming an FLE in it’s own right. I guess I should say: FLP, forum limited purchase! Hey, are there any other FLP's out there?
Re: Dial Color
I agree, the colour and texture of the dial can transform a watch from 'ok' to 'brilliant'. I am still seeking the perfect blue dial watch - and hoping the forthcoming 2012FLE delivers.

Re: Dial Color
The bolder colours do look good on dive watches and some chronos (e.g. the C70 series) though I'm not fond of the orange that some people seem to love!

Re: Dial Color
Forgot, I've also got an orange one too
I love the wave dials on the Omega's which coupled with the vibrant blue makes the watch almost "alive": As you move, the reflections through the crystal changes and the lines alternate between going horizontal and vertical - plus, they shimmer! It's quit fascinating to sit somewhere well lit and watch the dial change... I'm sad
So yes, I'd say that the colour/texture of the dial can have a huge effect on the desirability of a watch.

Re: Dial Color
I've had a couple of yellow and orange dialled watches, both divers, and although they are a perfect compliment for the summer holidays and the beach/pool, I've found I never wore them at any other time.
My white faced C6 was a good colour though, bright enough for the holidays, but sober enough for weekend wear with the old jeans and t-shirt etc.
I'm not an extrovert though, I feel a bit too self conscious with bright coloured watches outside of holidays!
I do like the 'custard yellow' dials found on some Breitling's and Hamilton's though.

Ideal number of watches in your collection = current number of watches + 1...

Must make for a conversation piece, though. Either that or everybody in the office slowly starts wearing sunglasses

I'm in your corner, scooter!
I would have bought one if it had been 40mm or smaller.

Re: Dial Color
Yeah, I would call that a bit over the top. You see these colorful designs occasionally even in very high-end watches, but I think they drastically restrict the number of places once can wear them. One of my co-workers who is an avid collector, has a corum casino watch and the only place he wears it is in Vegas. Seems like a lot of $ to commit on something one wears perhaps a weekend a year.xtriple wrote:While I am (outwardly) a confident person, that is too loud even for me! Christopher Ward piece may offer a bit more versatility if you sail a lot, but otherwise is not an easy piece to wear.
Re: Dial Color
I actually like the C700. The texture elements are really interesting and the movement is phenomenal for this price point.Russ-Shettle wrote:Not just color, what about textures? I had reservations about readability on that one though and it's a bit larger than the stuff I've been looking at.
Also agree on textures. The c60 wave pattern adds certain character to the watch in a field populated by plain sub clones with untextured black dials. C60 was what caught my eye and got me interested in CW as the appearance and craftsmanship are very similar to my Omega Seamaster at a quarter of the price. I would have gotten the C60 if did not have the Omega already.
Another thing that attracted me to CW were the designs for C3\C5. I have both, and while C5 texture is virtually invisible to the naked eye, I find myself admiring the black C3 with its grooves which give watch different appearance at different angles. C5 also has the best AR coating I've seen )or perhaps it's just the sapphire) where it has a nice blueish hue at certain angles.
