Defence Discount Service & Blue Light Card

Post by Bahnstormer_vRS »

As some Forum Members will already know the Defence Discount Service is the official MoD* discount service for the UK Armed Forces, Veterans and Armed Forces Community.

*Ministry of Defence

"Defence Discount Service (DDS) provides discounts both online and on the high street for members of the Armed Forces, Veterans and Armed Forces Community.

Defence Discount Service is home of the Defence Privilege Card, the vetted discount card that can be used in stores, restaurants and venues to obtain armed forces discounts. This discount card allows Veterans and the Armed Forces Community to have a card that can allow them to receive military discounts."

What you may not know is that, along with a multitude of UK High Street and Online Retailers etc. Christopher Ward is a supporting business with DDS.

As such members of the DDS are able to obtain, currently, a 10% discount on CW products (excluding Sale and Limited Edition items).

NB> The DDS is operated by Blue Light Card Ltd which operates a similar Discount Service for UK Emergency Services and NHS; it is possible that CW may be a supporting business there too (but I'm not able to check).

I wonder if companies like CW will honor this official government veterans card for a discount once it is rolled out to all UK veterans. It is expected to be available to all veterans later this year.

^^^^ I sincerely hope they do, Malcolm, and it would appear to be a logical step if they are already supporting the DDS.

@Harbuzi

Following your post yesterday evening, I pinged an email to my contact within CW Customer Service, anticipating a response on Monday.

Better than that, I received a reply late this afternoon with some enormously positive news.

CW are actively working on making discounts available on the Blue Light Card website, in addition to those already available on the Defence Discount Scheme.

In the interim, until CW have this organised, if you are a holder of a Blue Light Card, simply contact CW Customer Service by email and they will provide you with a Unique Code to allow you to make a purchase with a 10% discount.

Kudos to CW for supporting our Defence and Emergency Services Community and for responding to me at the weekend. :thumbup: :thumbup:

Any info for us on the other side of the pond? The service I see used the most over here in the States is ID.me. Veterans verify service with ID.me and then the merchant is able to use them as a verification method. Just curious if they have given any thought for customers outside of the UK.

^^^^ Good point Rich, the US of A is, after all, CW's largest market outside of the UK and I'm sure the US Military would be a lucrative market for CW.

:wink: :wink:

I'll ask.

@rkovars

Following up on your post above Rich, I emailed to CW last night (sorry it took a while) and have received a reply this morning, the salient points of which are;-

I must say, your point about the US market is quite compelling, and I completely agree that it presents a significant opportunity for us, we do provide the 10% code for any military forces across the world if they call or email us.

This aligns well with our mission of making our products accessible to those who have served their countries. It's heartening to see the positive response and engagement from our international community, and I believe we can further strengthen these bonds by extending such benefits.

I have a DDS account, however I have not been able to find CW listed, so ended up ordering my first new CW direct from their site. Would have been nice to have been eligible for a veterans discount on a C63 Valour, though this watch seems reasonably priced particularly if you are not a fan of bracelets.

Hello,

Welcome to the forum. Please do introduce yourself: Member Introductions

I'm not sure why CW isn't listed but contacting CW customer service would have gotten you sorted. I believe the process isn't really integrated into the back end of the website so CW verifies your service and then sends you a private link to purchase the watch in question with the discount applied. Hope that helps.

Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear you had difficulties with the DDS.

I've just checked, and CW seems to have dropped off the DDS. However, when I bought my C63 Valour on release, I was able to use the DDS code that has been saved within my CW account for some time.

May I suggest you contact Customer Services, explain your situation, and ask if they will help.

Guy

Thank you both for your welcome and I will take up your advice and endeavour to make contact with CW, plus introduce myself; a bit remiss to not do this first.
