CW website pics

Post by missF »

Just putting this out there for your thoughts and discussions.

I feel that - for an almost purely online company - the photos that accompany watch information on the CW site are a bit few and far between, and not particularly helpful when it comes to making decisions on size of watch.

One specific thing I’d like to see is that whenever you see a wrist shot it should come with the size of the wrist.

My other specific is that it would be great to have a much larger sequence of pics for each watch so that you can see it from different angles and get a much clearer idea of the height of the watch or how light affects the appearance of the dial for example.

What do you all think?

I agree. I get most of my impressions of Christopher Ward’s offerings from watch review websites and YouTube reviews

I think you're spot on, and I think the added expense of additional images (which may be negligible if they're automating the process of putting them on wrists, which given the similarities between wrist photos I believe is the case) would potentially offset the number of returns they receive from people who aren't happy with what they received. I obviously don't have any numbers to support that, but I think everyone would benefit from more accurate photos, at different angles, on different wrists.

I don’t really spend so much time watching online reviews and also I’m not on Instagram, so I may be missing out on the best source of pics.

But I’ll stick with having a wrist size with every wrist shot for sure!

Watchfinder have a couple of helpful features on their website. One where you can adjust the size of a wrist to see how it looks. Then one where you take a photo of your wrist input the size and see how it might look on you. Note I didn’t input my wrist size on the attached screenshot, just used the default size for illustration purposes.

I have to agree with Lindsey. I think there is a lot more that CW could do in terms of showing watches on a variety of wrists and being clear what the wrist sizes (and shapes?) are.

I was recently looking at the Farer website and for each of their watches the product page shows a handful of short "wrist roll" videos, each on a different size wrist, with the wrist size stated. This really helps to give an indication of how a watch will wear on a range of wrist sizes. I would really support CW doing something similar.

I agree that those CW wrists are suspiciously constant! I have to admit that I have no idea how their photographic process might work. The images are completely standardised across models which does nothing to help me spot the real worn shape or character of a watch. The front wrist view is the only view of the whole watch :(

I work for a company that does photographic workflows, but I have admittedly limited knowledge. I believe they'd probably have one common wrist asset, then a master watch asset for a couple key views, then they'd merge those together in a batch. It's the same way, for instance, that Nike can create the exact same image of a shoe but with different colors.

Or I could be totally wrong. I'm wrong most of the time.

^^^
The pics on the CW website (and let’s face it I’m talking about many other watch websites too) look high quality and pukka. But unreal and bland.

I’d choose more real (and more of them) even if that meant less pukka and polished.

Then again, I’d rather CW spent as much of their money on actually building watches as they can...

CW’s pics are the weakest link in the online sales experience. They also look more like renders or computer generated images rather than real world photos. They’re a real let down.

I am not aware of any brands that put actual wrist shot pics on their website, nor do I think they need to.

CW quote all of the details I need, for me to determine whether the watch will be a good fit for my wrist…

Case size, case height, lug to lug and weight.

A wrist size calculator gizmo would add nothing from my perspective.

Dial size would be nice, as I think this is the most important metric of the lot for determining how large a watch wears. But I agree that the other metrics listed can get you most of the way to the correct conclusion.

I agree completely, I had no interest in the Twelve seeing it on the CW site.

Only once I watched a video and saw the 36mm wrist shots in the latest Loupe was I interested
