CW C65 Aquitaine at 2022 SF WindUp

Post by Bident »

Hi all,

Just got back from the San Francisco WindUp Watch fair. Had a delightful chat with Mike France, and the opportunity to meet Declan, Olivia, and Jorg. Here are some quick photos of the new Aquitaine line. The picture of the strap/buckle shows the new keeper system, a simple loop that prevents the keeper from sliding around:

It was a great time, indeed! Apologies for some of the photos being blurry...the lighting was tricky inside the venue.

Thanks for posting. What’s your view on the Aquitaine having seen it live?

These are great! Thanks for sharing.

How would you describe the green & the blue in person? Are they as bright, if that’s the word for it, as they appear in CW’s pics, or does darker in real life? The blue in your photo also looks darker than CW’s pics, which is a good thing in my opinion.

Like most watches, they look a lot better in person than in photos. I also found them to be very comfortable and the fit and finish were top notch. The new bracelet was also very nice, and Olivia told me the range on the micro adjustment for the clasp is actually a bit more than the older models, a nice little improvement that I didn't know about. The bezel action feels great, like the Mk3 C60. Even the bidirectional bezel of the GMT model has a superb feeling.

I'm a bargain hunter, so will most likely look to pick one up in the distant future during a sale, as I did with my Mk3 C60. Also, Declan and Mike hinted at more colors coming in the not too distant future.

The green C63 GMT really caught my eye, though. CW is allowing the use of the $125 discount at the fair, plus I wouldn't have to pay for any import duties, which would be levied otherwise since the purchase price is over US$800. I'm heading back Sunday, so I have a day and a change to mull it over..... :?

I think they are a bit darker in person (both green and blue), but also I think it depends upon the light. The indoor lighting was very warm, as you might be able to tell in the photos. I have a feeling the watches might look different in outdoor light, and also cooler light indoors.

The picture of Jorg Jr above is interesting, as it’s the first photo I’ve seen of the watch on a wrist at a distance. When you zoom in on the watch, the hands are very legible against the white dial, so that reassures me that there won’t be any legibility issues there. It also looks very good on the brown strap.

Steve, I would say all the new Aquitaine models have great legibility. I typically need reading glasses for close up viewing, and I found even the date windows were easy for my aging eyes (for reference, I use +1.75 readers).

So, in regards to color depth. I have always found the stock photos of CW watches to be slightly washed out. That's why I like to post my photos, especially close-ups of dials.

The green and blue are just flat out gorgeous. They are full of depth and not "bright washed" at all. As you can see in the photo I posted, light will play with the dial as it does with their cases. The bronze just blew me away. I'm a sucker for bronze watches and this is going to be a definite pick-up soon. We switched out and put a leather on the bronze because I think leather just looks better and it really made the watch pop.

The new bracelet has 6 adjustments points and tapers very well.

The eggshell GMT was beautiful as well. It is ever so off white and just different that this watch will stand out. I think these new watches are total wins for CW.

Awesome, I’m slightly jealous! Great pictures too, they really show off those colors. I’m totally sold on all the color ways. Thanks to my wallet though I won’t have the anxiety of choosing

Thanks for sharing the pictures. It's interesting you can see the red barrel under the crown from the front of the watches. There is a Youtube video where the reviewer commented that you could only see the red barrel from the back of the watch when the watch was off his wrist and the crown unscrewed. I wonder if he was reviewing a pre-production model? You can see the lack of red in the front and his comment at about 2:30 in the following Link to the video.
