That’s a strange addition to a strap, surely the point of having the second keeper is that you move it along the length of the excess strap and don’t position it next to the fixed keeper.

I do have straps where they live side by side, but all the CW straps I’ve owned have always had quite a lot of extra strap and I need to move the keeper to hold it in place.

I assume it is like this so it can be cut loose if needed, but it seems like a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

I think the idea of this is that once you move the second keeper to the correct position it doesn't move around, like a lot of second keepers do.
A similar idea, but different design, to the locking keeper on the barton silicone straps.

What do you think about the 6 o'clock index under the date window? Something was bugging me about it, and I finally realized it was because it looks like they just cut the top part of the index off without finishing the chamfer around it. It looks like they just stuck it on as an afterthought.

I looked at some other watches with 6 o'clock date windows and usually they either finish the chamfer around the whole index, or have no index. You can see some good examples if you look through the Non CW of the day thread. If you get a chance when you see the Aquitaine in the flesh again today, let me know what you think of this small detail. I've added a couple of examples to this post.
I just looked at the C63 GMT and there is no chamfer there either. I have had the watch for over half a year and I’ve never noticed it, so I can’t say it’s going to make a great difference to my life.

Possibly, I’m obviously only going off this picture which I thought looked like the loop may be permanently attached to the strap below the keeper. If it is something that would allow you to move the keeper then it remain fixed, then it could be a nice idea.

^^^ It looks the same as Di-Modell's 'loop anchor system'. With theirs, the 2nd keeper is attached to the 1st keeper via a fabric loop.

I've always cut them off as it only allows for about 5mm of spacing between the 2 keepers.
Great if you have very little excess strap to tuck in, completely useless otherwise and defeats the object of the outer keeper.

I see what you are saying about the C63 GMT. I had never noticed it either, probably because it doesn't have a chamfer on the top or bottom and still seems finished. It sits there inconspicuously and doesn't draw the eye. The problem with the Aquitaine is it looks like an afterthought, like they just cut an index in half and stuck it right up against the date window. It would not stop me from buying an Aquitaine, but it definitely draws my eye to it.

John, can you confirm that the dials on the blue and green models are sunray dials?

I agree Ryan.

The first thing that I would do is cut it - unless CW have finally cottoned on and realised their straps are too long for people with an average sized wrist and therefore made the new straps shorter.

If I remember correctly, the loop is made of an elastic material. It stretches as one moves the keeper up the strap and stays in place from the pressure and friction against the wrist. It seemed to work well in the brief time I wore the watch, but I could see how it could retract a bit during normal wear. The elastic tension is on the weaker side, so that helps in keeping the keeper in place.

I'm pretty sure they are sun ray dials, but I'll confirm later today when I'm back at the event.

Yesterday was my first visit to a watch fair and I very much enjoyed seeing so many timepiece in such an intimate setting. Of course, I also enjoyed my visit to CW’s tables and, in particular, enjoyed listening to Jorg and Mike talk about the Aquitaine models and the design decisions they made—about which more later.

Since I can ill afford another watch right now (with two CW purchases in the last 6 mos), I opted for the swag bag, which deserves its own photo….

Andrew,

Yes, the dials are sunray for the blue and green color ways.

...and I got this one wrong...apologies. It is in fact, a fixed loop that does not stretch (or at most, stretches just a tiny bit). I've attached a picture that shows the maximum amount, approximately, the loop allows the keeper to move up the strap:

Malcolm, when zooming in upon the 6 o'clock hour marker, it does look unfinished and lopped off to some degree. But I honestly would have never noticed it if I hadn't read your comments. It didn't bother me at all, and it's discreet enough being tucked in under the date window that it doesn't detract from the watch's overall aesthetic, in my opinion.

Also, I've attached pictures of the crown tube to show the red painted areas. The crown itself has red on its inner, case facing portion all around the crown. The tube is red only on the underside and on the part closest to the case.

I apologize for the poor picture quality. As before, the lighting in the room was not conducive to get good, clear photos.

Epilogue: I somehow managed to walk out of the event without purchasing the C63 GMT, or anything else for that matter. My wife and a good friend both attended the show with me, and they too resisted the siren call. What a bunch of party poopers.
