CW beaten by Seiko? Vote now to help

Post by albionphoto »

Fratello website run something called a Sunday showdown. This week it's Seiko v. CW and CW are losing badly. Your watch needs you. Take a look and take a vote. At the time of writing the Seiko had 67% of the vote. Do not let this injustice stand! :D

https://www.fratellowatches.com/sunday- ... -dune-gmt/

I did vote for the CW but for me it was a matter of which did I dislike least. Do I dislike fauxtina more or less than cathedral hands and over large arabics. Your mileage may very but let's see if Fratello can find forum influence. CW forumites unite!

I prefer the Seiko, not keen on that particular CW.

Then vote Seiko. There are many Seikos I prefer over the Dune too. Just not this one.

Well, I've done my bit to help the Swiss/Brit/Swiss boutique brand square up to the global watch communities favourite low/budget price brand: I'm pleased to see that CW get's the score that it does despite all the hate comments. I voted for the brand not for the watch.

Some big egos in the comments..... I'm thinking "small man syndrome/young man still living at hotel mom & pop". I'm too old to care now.

 Great post.
I think there are still reviewers around who haven’t ‘researched’ CW enough. Sometimes there’s still an odd phrase here and there that gives that away:

best watch at this price level ’...

To be honest I don’t think CW will ever be greatly impressed by this sort of faint praise. Their bracelets, I think, put them well into the next price level. Build quality too. Finishing. Innovation, or at least use of interesting industry materials or techniques. It’s not just about whether you like the logo or not, and that’s still too easy for reviewers to call on.

So I voted for CW for the following reasons. I have owned an alpinist (for a very short time). Compared with whatever CW watch I was wearing at the time the build quality and finishing were notably lower. It was the first time I had held up another watch to a CW and really paid attention to comparing different aspects of the two. I came away very impressed by CW.

Edit : I don’t think I’ll read the comments...

I did, as I said I prefer the Seiko over this particular CW.

So I voted as required - by watch not brand.

Neither watch does anything for me so I should perhaps have declined to vote but I'm not perfect.

I've happily voted for the Dune in this (and commented on their Instagram post yesterday!) - but the 'fight' is unfair given the Dune GMT was a limited run, whereas the Seiko will now be readily available!

I genuinely think the black Dune GMT might be my favourite CW design period, it's just a fantastic looking piece! A real shame it was an LE - maybe one day I'll come across one at the same time my watch fund is looking healthy

I thought the guy who proposed the Dune was a bit negative about it, to be honest. I thought the flag logo was not so good on that one, looking rather stark in white. Maybe an applied logo would have looked better. It's not up to me, but I never found the word brand a problem, although I can see why the 9 o'clock placing was not so well received.

:) Which one can I get the best deal on?

After all that’s why I am on the forum. When is the next sale?

Unless I’ve read the article incorrectly, not sure why you think it’s unfair. I took it as just a vote for your preferred watch of 2 choices.

It could be argued that it is unfair to ask members of a bespoke forum to vote for their brand rather than the watches in question.
“CW forumites unite!

As far as I know there is no Seiko forum.

I’ve never experienced either in real life and voted according to the photos published in the article.

Happy to stand corrected tho!!

I'm afraid I'm not keen on either as I don't want a GMT function and I certainly never need to know where North is . . . but the one observation I would make is there are some very rude people out there and I'm surprised Fratello doesn't monitor the comments a bit better!

Once I exclude all the bitching comments this one was my favourite…

“How does the compass bezel work? I can see that it moved between some of the shots (also in the pic with the black and blue model, I can see that the bezels are oriented slightly differently from one another – which does make sense since the two watches aren’t aligned).”

Of course the bezel moved. That’s what the compass bezel on an Alpinist does. All with a mind of its own.

You set it, it brushes against your hand it moves and doesn’t stay put where you set it.

It’s part of the “charm” of an Alpinist. Apparently! :)

I voted Dune easily. I’ve never been a fan of the Alpinist, but I’m not surprised it would be winning.

I’m not sure if all the Youtubers push it or whatever, but the Alpinist is a cliche in the stereotypical reddit watch starter pack alongside the PRX and Khaki Field. When people ask “What watch should I buy?”, it seems that a lot of people follow a checklist and the Alpinist is on it.

The Old Radium lume on the Dune will have the keyboard warriors in a tizzy I am sure.
