CW beaten by Seiko? Vote now to help
Re: CW beaten by Seiko? Vote now to help
There's a decent amount of ripping on Christopher Ward for the logo and brand name alone. Among other frivolous reasons such as, "I would never spend real money on a CW".
Keep in mind, I've noticed these types of watch articles and their comment sections tend to attract some of the faux-elitist kind of people in the hobby.

I did go back and read the comments section...
Oh my eyes!
I’m glad I only read watchie comments here.
If a little bit of my spirit resides in whatever watch is on my wrist I’d be well to remember not to sh*t all over whatever someone else has chosen to wear today.

Yeah! And don't forget the vouchers

Wait..... they stopped the vouchers? What kind of business gets folks all excited with free vouchers and then stops printing them? What an utter let-down.

The Dune has an applied brushed logo. It isn't stark white. It just looks that way in photos when taken straight on.JAFO wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 1:57 pm I thought the guy who proposed the Dune was a bit negative about it, to be honest. I thought the flag logo was not so good on that one, looking rather stark in white. Maybe an applied logo would have looked better. It's not up to me, but I never found the word brand a problem, although I can see why the 9 o'clock placing was not so well received.

Ive said this for some time now. What Seiko is to $400, Christopher Ward is to $1,000. Both amazing values at those price points.

Sorry, I want to support CW but much prefer the Seiko in this matchup. Seiko gets my vote!

Well as a good CW fanboi I did my bit and voted for the CW. Not a massive fan of either but the CW shaded my vote. It actually looks nice on the wrist I think.

CW always triggers them. Any other "microbrand" is fine. It's an obsession to some.Emphasis wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 12:55 am There's a decent amount of ripping on Christopher Ward for the logo and brand name alone. Among other frivolous reasons such as, "I would never spend real money on a CW".

Same with the name. Maurice Lacroix, Ulysse Nardin, Patek Phillippe, or even Christiaan van der Klaauw, nobody cares that A. Lange even puts his sons on the dial, but CW somehow is a problem.

Boy, this was a hard choice...
Lots I like about each watch... some things I don't like about either...
I can't help but Franken them together in my mind:
the CW case, bezel style and movement, but the Seiko dial and hands. Date at 6 o'clock, no GMT function, and a minute track on the bezel....

I don't find the Christopher Ward brand name a problem, except . . . . . . the elephant in the room is not so much that CW is no longer clocking in at the office but he is still out there - somewhere - lurking - mysterious - ready -

Not a fan of this particular CW. Also not a fan of GMT watches where the GMT hand appears to be the first thing you see when viewing the watch. A GMT hand should be much more subtle as the normal hour and minute hands will always be used probably at least hourly, where the GMT hand is an occasionally used.

Re: CW beaten by Seiko? Vote now to help
Coming from someone who currently has the Dune GMT, has handled a few Alpinists and also owns a Seiko Laurel Alpinist re-interpretation, I can say hand on heart that the Seiko is nowhere near the watch that the Dune is.
Visual preferences aside, CW's bracelet is much better than Seiko's. The finishing on the hands/markers of the CW is much more intricate and crisp.
The case is also much more detailed and better finished.
The CW is more comfortable to wear. While the latter is personal preference, the others are fact.
I'm a big Seiko fan as well as CW, so there isn't any bias in my assesment.
As was recently mentioned in this thread and also my opinion, the Seiko is a decent watch at its price point, but I'd say the Dune is a fantastic watch at RRP.

They should have put Sealander GMT against the Seiko Alpinist - given the latter is more of a field watch (I own an Alpinist). Not quite right to compare a vintage diver to a field watch - a bit apples and oranges.

Seiko won 66% to 34%. Oh well. It's hard to beat the Seiko fandom
