Customer Service - Sending A Watch For Estimate

Post by pfb1313 »

Hello ... I did try searching first but got too many replies for "Customer Service" - I recently picked up a lovely C11 (Mk1) - It is in great condition & recently serviced @ CW - My only gripe is that the lume is poor & whilst it lights up well with a charge, it fades quickly & is next to useless in the wee small hours (when I need it!) - I emailed CS & asked if it was feasible to have the watch re-lumed or (more likely) have a new dial & hands fitted? - Initial response was speedy & I was all set to send the watch in to CW for an estimate for the cost of having the dial & hands replaced - When I replied saying I would like to proceed I got no reply & likewise when I resent the email - So I submitted a new email to CS & this time was sent a reply with links to send the watch in to CW - When I tried to complete the online proforma the process stalled because I did not have an Order No? - I have never been given one & there was none present on any of the emails I have received from CS - I replied to the email but got no response & likewise when I resent the email? - I tired ringing CS & after a short wait was told they were too busy & I was cut off? - It has been several years since I had need to contact CS & I don't remember it being anything like this?
Does anyone have any suggestions what I might do, or who I could contact (apart from CS) to try & resolve this issue?
Thank you ... Paul
I never forget a face, but in your case I'd be glad to make an exception!

I know this isn’t answering your actual question but earlier models of CW watches weren’t exactly know for their excellent lume.

The C11 did have large amounts on the hands though but I don’t know how well it lasted.

It might be worth asking how owners of C11s have found their lume to be. You don’t want to go to the expense of swapping dials if it doesn’t help with your actual issue.

Exactly what @Bahnstormer_vRS and @iain have advised. The online form "fails" when you don't have an initial order reference number (or maybe which needs to be recognised by the system) but there is a "Lite" version of the online form which you can print off and use: composing an email providing the information you'd have put in the online version does the same job.

Please don't expect Seiko standards of lume.

Re: Customer Service - Sending A Watch For Estimate - C11 MSL Lume

Post by Bahnstormer_vRS »

^^^^ @pfb1313

Iain makes a very good point about the standard / effectiveness of the lume on the C11 MSL, and other older CWs.

I've owned several C11 MSLs over the years, my first being a C11 MSL 'Black Manta' bought new in 2012. I would describe the lume as good but not great.

The other aspect to remember is that lume has improved significantly over the last 10-15 years, with currently available top grade lume being brighter and longer lasting.

It's also worth noting that CW did not use top grade lume on their earlier watches, which they do now.

Yep. Poor lume was a significant early gripe!
I recently sent my daily C60 bronze in for service. Like you, the on line system fell over at the job number stage. I just rang and asked for a service quote, which started off the process properly with me being sent a returns pack.
All went well, the service was completed within the estimated time, and the watch now has proper reserve and rates better than ever.

I had a C11 with green hands. The lume was very poor. I had mine from new. As others have said the lume from CWs of 10 years ago was pretty poor. I doubt your lume is faulty, it sucked from new. Ten years might not have helped much but don't be surprised if a new dial/hand set still doesn't have good lume. YMMV but if it was me I wouldn't send the watch in for a dial replacement but keep it and enjoy it as is.

^^^^ One point to note is that if CW are able to swap the dial. It will be with one they still have in stock which was made years ago. I don’t believe CW will have remade dials for these watches recently so the lume on your new dial will be as old as the one on your current dial.

How early is early? I like the look of the old Peregrine c4 from 2008 - 2012 era. Would they likely have a poor lume?

Period CW lume if you please   I'll bring mine into the light for an hour and am throwing in a photo now  Small lume plots all round; I don't think there'll be much left in an hour's time.

That's early enough to have 'period lume' :-)
