As to butterfly clasp 5 link bracelets with an easy link adjust…

Although I have never needed to use it in the four years or so that I have owned it. An easy pull out of about 5mm either side if required.

Neil
Formex has a fold out link on their bracelet for the Essence, adjacent to the butterfly clasp; a bit like a 'diver's extension' but only 4mm-5mm long.

With this clasp, how important is it to remove links specifically from one side of the clasp versus the other? I know with a traditional Bader style I have to pay careful attention to not just how many links I remove but from which side and in what combination to ensure the clasp is positioned most comfortably on my wrist. Do you think the same applies to the butterfly clasp?
It isn't as tricky as a Bader to keep the clasp centered. The butterfly is nice and symmetrical so it makes it easy. I just made sure I took more links from the side that had more so that they would be even. The only reason I can think of that they added an extra link to one side is to make the overall length the same as the Bader bracelets out of the package.

I am not sure I agree with @welshlad on this one based on my comment above. The Bader is a different animal and adds its own 'links' into the system where it attaches to the rest of the bracelet which makes it trickier. The butterfly doesn't do this. I just counted to be sure and I have exactly 10 links on both sides. You can see from the wrist roll video that my clasp sits bang in the middle of the underside.

If you need to remove an even number of links then you need to decide where you want the clasp to sit (since one side has more links out of the box).
What’s the verdict? Did you miss the micro adjust? I’m hoping that between the comfort of the bracelet (as you described it) and the lighter weight of the 36mm Sealander, potentially wearing the bracelet a bit loose to accommodate wrist expansion won’t be an issue?
I haven't missed it yet. To be fair I have only worn it a couple of days. I also have it a little loose rather than a little tight. I think this works because of the reduced overall weight. I plan on wearing it a couple of more days and then switching back to the Bader bracelet to feel the difference. For my adjusted bracelets the difference is 20g so that is pretty substantial.

I am thinking now I might grab one of the newer Sealander bracelets (20-16 with shorter clasp) when I am certain the older longer clasped versions have been sold through. The 20-18 is fine but I would be lying if I said you can't feel the weight.

I've checked the rules and it's ok, you're allowed to disagree with me!

I think my wrist is a different shape to most other people's, but I always need to have the 6 side of a bracelet much shorter than the 12 side, regardless of the clasp style. It just sits more comfortable for me that way. I know that Gary in Australia has a similar view, but I'm pretty sure it's not universal to everyone. The key with the Consort bracelet is that it's a piece of cake to take out links or add links, so it's really easy to get it comfortable to however the wearer wants it.

Rich I don’t think that I did lengthen or shorten between the draped over wrist and sideways shots. Where I normally have the micro set only varies between no adjustment and two clicks out, which at least means that the moveable link doesn’t really add to the length of the clasp.

At most it was 2 out on the back of the wrist and fully closed on the sideways view.

Neil
It was more a comment in just how visually different they looked. Not that there was any physical difference. I took it that everything remained constant between the two images. It just goes to show that an experience with a photo and experience on the wrist are two different things.

I am not sure 2/3rd links would be possible with these. The screws alone are 2.8mm (1.4mm x 2 holes). Given they are only 6.5mm that might be cutting it very close on the tolerances. You might get down to 5.5mm without too much trouble but from there I think it would be getting tough. The only other solutions would be to make some sort of micro adjustment in the butterfly (has this been done?) or go with the shorter Bader clasp.
It does look like smaller links are not viable. Another way round this would to be add a couple of slightly longer links to allow finer adjustment.
A good point, that would achieve the same outcome. In theory not ideal, but if the longer links were near the clasp it would be ok.

Like you I am very much in the “get the 6 side correct and then sort the 12”. For me that always means less on the 6 than the 12.

Well with perhaps the most famous consort in mind, would calling it the Prince Albert bracelet help?

I’ve just looked at my Twelve bracelet which is similar. Excluding the end links and the clasp links I have 11 on the 6 o’clock side and 10 on the 12 o’clock side. It’s pretty much under the centre of my wrist, though I would probably have preferred the extra link on the other side. I could easily rectify that by reversing the bracelet, but then the name would be upside down as @iain was quick to point out.

Well that didn’t last long!

I originally adjusted the bracelet to a snug fit. Clasp centrally positioned where I wanted it. Two more links on the 12 than the 6. With an extra link on the 6 side I thought it was a bit loose. It was the afternoon of a hot day and I thought it would be perfect on cooler days.

It seems that I was wrong. It just felt a bit tight even though there were no bracelet or clasp marks on my wrist.

I have just added an extra link to the 6 side and it now feels much better.

It was a pleasure to be able to adjust a CW bracelet whilst holding it in one hand and using a single screwdriver. No 2nd screwdriver, no bracelet block, pin extractor or hammer. Well done CW.

I have my El Primero on a butterfly clasp. I also had a JLC which had a butterfly clasp that had two fold out extensions, one on each side. In both cases I tended to wear the watch loose to account for any wrist swell and I was happy with it.

When I first got my CW with micro adjustment is was forever moving it in and out throughout the day to keep the watch just how I liked it. But this was on a larger heavier dive watch.

Now I’m perfectly content to size a bracelet so it’s quite loose and just let it wear. I don’t mind if it’s a little too loose in most cases.

The exception to this rule is with big heavy watches. My Ingenieur is a perfect example where I need to keep the watch pretty fixed or the weight moving about is uncomfortable. I sold an Aquatimer for this reason and thankfully my Ingenieur has micro adjust so I can adjust it if needed.

Personally I think this consort is intended to be worn on smaller watches, sealanders etc which are light and I don’t mind wearing loose. I can’t see it being offered with the next 600m dive chronograph, it’s not a beast of a bracelet.

For me therefore the lack of any micro adjustment on links this size won’t be an issue.

The new Rolex Explorer also has a very similar arrangement on the oyster bracelet...to my surprise as I was expecting a glidelock.

The new consort bracelet does look good (and you can't beat a sour cream pringle!).

IIRC the only steel or gold bracelet Rolex models with a glidelock are Submariners and Sea-dwellers. The gold Daytona and Yacht-Master models with an Oysterflex also use the glidelock.

Nearly all other Rolex models, whether from the professional or classic range have an easy link.

There is no adjustment at all on the Day-Date President bracelet, but the links are small.
