CI Russell with an automatic movement

Post by Gray C »

Hi

I like the design and looks of this watch, but I am not a great lover of quartz movements. Are there any plans to produce this model with an automatic movement any time in the near future?

Regards

You're not the only one Graham. But I believe there is a practical problem: there is no mechanical calibre that fits the C1-case and dial.

Is it not practical to alter the case and dial slightly (without changing its appearance too much) to accommodate an automatic movement?

Might be... I made a note of this, will verify with Chris, and if possible this would certainly be a good candidate for a future limited!!

YES!

It's funny, I joined this forum just so I could ask if the Russell design could be sold with automatic movement and lo and behold someone else started a thread on it.

Don't get me wrong, I like the design of most of the watches here, some really beautiful elegant stuff, but the Russell is for me by far the best looking of them all.

So if there is some way of doing it, please please please consider an automatic version!

I think a lot of forum members agree with you there but i think a hand wound version may be better, more in keeping with the original that inspired it in the first place :D

I could definitely live with a hand wind.

yeah, I think the classic design of the watch really lends itself to a hand wind movt.

Me too. A hand wound would be a big seller. It fits with the character of the watch. I'd definitely have one, because I haven't got anything of this type, but I could see me down the village pub wearing it :D

I'm in on a hand wound C1. Was saving up for a nice hand wound and hadn't decided what to purchase yet, but a hand wound C1 would definitely make the list.

Would you consider the C1 without the sub-dial second hand and fitted with a 2824? This would be the cheapest and least complicated way to convert it. Without the sub-dial, it would closely resemble the C5. The sub-dial does look nice though, I have to admit. However, had the C1 been an auto without the sub-dial, I would have picked it over the C5. The C5 series could have included the C1 without the sub-dial and I'll be would have been a big seller.
