Christopher Ward logo
Re: Christopher Ward logo
I guess everyone has their own opinion. I for one, bought a CW because the twin flag logo applied onto the dial in an image I saw, caught my eye so I looked up the brand and their watches. If it had the word Christopher Ward printed on it, I probably wouldn't have looked it up.

Re: Christopher Ward logo
My take on it, is that the 'error', such that it was, was putting the branding at the 9 O'clock position and not the font or logo used.
A lot of the used CWs of this style, sit for quite a long time unsold, unless particularly cheap.

Re: Christopher Ward logo
While it could be a great addition, for casual watch lovers with no deep collecting purposes I wouldn’t had considered buying any of previous generations with text version on the dial. For some reason it was either font or something else (partial capitalization) that turned me away.
Current version is the best in my opinion.
Are there any reasons to have the logo on the dial? I can imagine people who are shying away from asking what watch do you wear could easily google it later?

Re: Christopher Ward logo
I believe I have almost all logo variations, except the very first 'W' within 'C'. And to be fair, I did not know about CW when this logo was in use, but I wouldn't have liked it to the point that it probably would have made me look for a different brand. So it's probably best that I did not get to see it.
That being said, I absolutely loved the next "Chr. Ward London" logo. This logo and font just look incredibly classy to me. I still think this is very suitable for their dressy watches.
Then came the "Christopher Ward" logo. I have very neutral feelings about this one, but to me it felt like a step back. I neither love it or hate it, but I do find it the most boring of them all, and I'm personally happy they moved away from it.
I consider the current twin flags logo to be the best of them all, and very versatile on both dressy or sport models, it just looks good and somewhat unique, and much more original than a pool of letters. And they do usually print the name on the back or on the rotor, so it's still there, just not taking up precious dial space. I think having the name printed and the twin flags would just take up too much space and break the balance on some dials.
And I do agree with CW's choice that some models, like Bel Canto and Moonphase, just look much better without the logo. Bel Canto is honestly quite well known in the watch enthusiasts groups and rarely needs an introduction.

Re: Christopher Ward logo
I've grown to appreciate all the various logos. Each has had its time and place in the evolution of the company.
I do think the applied twin flags in use now is excellent.
But I have a soft spot for the name at the nine and the twin flags on my Abyss too. It provides a nice bit of symmetry with the date window.

Not only that ^^^^^^^^^^ but the discussion went on and on and on and on.rkovars wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 10:03 pm This has been discussed ad nauseam on the board. I am not sure there would be anything new to discuss about the logo.
CW only started the transition in 2022. I don't think given the time and effort that went into the rebranding that they will reverse course any time soon. I also don't think they have a problem. Everyone seems to know a CW when they see it.

I'm an old f+rt but I've got used to the checkerboard now.

I very much prefer the twin flags logo. The watches I've seen that spell out CW don't look as clean.

But I’ve since gotten used to it. I like the swish only. And I don’t think it would be good for CW to change logo again. It’s gotta be the swish and swish only, forever and always.
I do however miss the constant bickering about the logosFor arguments sake, here’s a little mock-up I did back in 2021.

This doesnt look that croweded, But I do preffer the name to the side models.
Re: Christopher Ward logo
I have 3 handwound C65s with the 9 o'clock name brand, and never had an issue. I like my CWs enough to not be bothered about every precise detail.MarkingTime wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 6:43 pm My take on it, is that the 'error', such that it was, was putting the branding at the 9 O'clock position and not the font or logo used.

If I had a Rolex I think I would be irritated by the excess text at 6 o'clock, for instance.

Re: Christopher Ward logo
I did like the W in the C logo on the crown. I have become used to the twin flags logo now and don't mind it at all.

Re: Christopher Ward logo
The original, sometimes unkindly dubbed the Cattle Brand. Not my personal favourite. It bore a disquieting resemblance to the logo of Constantin Weisz, a shopping channel brand.
I had a soft spot for this one; Georgian retro, but it worked well on some models.
I never had the left justified word mark at 9 o’clock. However, I thought this was a good compromise when they centre justified it and moved it to 12 o’clock.
I’m happy with this. I hope they leave it alone for a good few years now.
