Cardboard watch templates?

Post by Cat »

Just been browsing through the CWL of the day thread and noticed on Bident's photos from the SF watch fair there were what looked like cardboard templates of the various watches that were on display. Does anyone know if these are a) 1:1 scale and b) if they are is there any way to get hold of them in the UK? I'm considering purchasing a C60 Trident Pro but unsure what size to go for. If these were life size and available in the UK it might help the decision making process.

I think those are actually stickers. I don't know if they are 1:1 or not. I would say the only place to pick one up would be a show where CW is attending. I would also say that there are probably only stickers for the new Loco and not other models.

Being in the UK it is very easy for you to take advantage of the 60/60 guarantee. CW pays shipping back to them if you get one and don't like the fit.

That being said, if you give some details here of wrist size and basic shape, people will give some general advice on fit to possibly get you in the ballpark.

It also helps to know if you prefer and bigger look over something smaller.

^^^^ @Cat

Are we talking about the 'cardboard templates' as seen at the bottom left of the wooden display boards that Mike Pearson and Will Brackfield are standing behind?

If so, they're not cardboard but plastic/vinyl stickers designed for your mirror, laptop lid, wherever.

They're 40mm across, but the watch is not to scale.

These are a couple that I picked up at the British Watchmakers Day, with 37mm C1 Moonphase BWMD and 40mm C60 Trident Pro 300 GMT on them. My Elliot Brown Broadstone UTC LE is 43mm (for scale).

As to where to get them from in the UK? The CW stand at a watch event, or try an email to events@christopherward.co.uk

But what a good idea it would be to have a selection of downloadable PDFs available which can be printed out at the correct 1:1 scale and even cut out for people to get an idea of absolute size. I’m sure I’ve seen something similar before- but it might not have been watches.

^^^^ easily done by taking a screen shot and then printing, with a bit of trial and error to get the correct size.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, very helpful. I'll maybe have a go at printing a scaled image of a watch and see how that goes.
