C9 Worldtimer vs C1 Worldtimer vs C1 Worldglow

Post by Tonywalker »

Hi
For my next CW I'm considering a Worldtimer.

I'm interested in people's feedback on the 3 WT's I'm aware of ( C9 WT, C1 WT, C1 WGlow) - pros/cons etc

Thanks
Tony

Sorry, forgot to mention that I'm after a WT with the geographical image on the dial, so that rules out C8 WTs

I personally like the one with the blue/white geographical image (I think that's the C1 WorldTimer)... however, the WorldGlow is also pretty cool too

There have sometimes been the odd C1 WT turn up in the sales, so keep an eye out 8)

I've got both the C1 Grand Malvern WorldTimer and WorldGlow and for this sort of discussion a photo always helps;-

The C1 WorldTimer and WorldGlow have a major difference to the earlier C9 WorldTimer in that they have a regular 12 hours rotation for the hour hands as opposed to 24 hours of the C9.

They are larger, at 43.5mm case width, than other C1 Grand Malverns but wear very comfortably with the sculptured case.

If you look at the dials, the orientation of the World is 90 degrees different between them; Pacific Ocean and logo on the left of the WT and at the top for the WG.

The WG's forte and party piece, as the name suggests, is its lume. Very charismatic.

I don't have a preference or favourite between the two as they each have their own identity although I do prefer to wear the WT during the day and WG in the evening (it looks stunning on the Milanaise Mesh for a dinner engagement).

Thanks for your valuable feedback Jasper & Guy.

I do like the C9 graphic, but not sure the independent airport code dial is particularly useful.

I would struggle to choose between the C1s.

A bit more pondering to be done I think!

I have no feedback having never seen any of these but as you said "that you're aware of" I thought I'd mention there's a fourth option in the form of the C8, if you're looking for the functionality rather than the look that is

Ok, I've changed my mind... the WorldGlow looks lovely and also prefer the orientation of the world on it

Thanks Guy... those are superb looking watches

I would have bought one of these already, but I have my heart set on this beauty (having tried it on back in June) 8) Still saving for it

Agree, I prefer my Omega too. But that's in a different price bracket, so not a fair comparison.

Indeed, different price bracket, so not very fair… but it’s a beautiful watch for sure… thanks for the photos 😃

The Malvern C1 is lovely and I can heartily endorse it. I picked one up on the sales forum last January.
When compared to the omega it is much thinner and slides under a shirt cuff much better. The lack of a date window is also a plus if you don't keep yours on a watch winder. The Omega doesn't have a date quick set so you have to travel around the dial a few times with the independent hour hand. Which makes the Omega better for travel.

I don't see the C1 WT listed in the website anymore in either iteration. They may be out of production. The divers probably sell a thousand times better, certainly are discussed a lot more on the forum. Better check out the sales forum in January if you want one.

Just a quick video I shot showing the watch moving under light.

The heated titanium centre disc is a work of art.

Unfortunately, these watches wear fairly large and a little too big for me. I tried on the Omega recently and that confirmed it, I actually also find the dial just too busy. I appreciate that's the nature of the beast in some ways of this type of watch but I prefer the look of the C1 WT over the Omega (just to add I do have a couple of Omegas so not biased against them!).

I wouldn't consider C9 WT (more of dual time) is really a true worldtimer like C1 WT or C1 WGlow.

Guess you won't go wrong with either C1 but most likely need to choose between availability.

Saying all that, if you intend to travel a lot with it, the adjustment process is a lot more time consuming comparing to Montlanc Orbis Terrarum.
