C9 SS - welcome back!
It’s somewhat over a year since the crown stem broke on my “Marine Chronometer” and because I was travelling round a bit and busy with other things I never got round to getting it fixed. It finally went back to Maidenhead in late April. I decided that as the watch was around eight years old it should have a service as well as the repair.
Within a few days, when I was in Turkey, I received the estimate and authorised them to proceed. Price seemed a little steep, but I know that is the case with the SH 21 watches. I was given a timeframe of up to 10 weeks.
Last week I received an email that my watch had been turned around in slightly under six weeks, which was very good, and was being prepared for dispatch.
It turned up today via DHL, in a current style CW box, and my original service pod was included (I’m sure it was mine because of the old logo). As you can see, it was very well packaged and protected, and the case had clearly been given the once over because it looked very smart and shiny. It is now wound and set and on the wrist, and is likely to remain there for a few days at least. I’m very happy to have this beautiful watch back and to have had a positive, if slightly costly, experience.

Re: C9 SS - welcome back!
The C9 SS is a good one to have back in the fold. Although I don't wear mine every day, it is one of my favorites. Those types of classic good looks never go out of style. Glad to hear that CW got it sorted for you!

Re: C9 SS - welcome back!
@WileyECoyote
Thanks, Delmar. I’m very fond of it as you know. During the summer I tend to prefer the bracelet watches, but I’m sure it will get plenty of wear later in the year. I will be wearing it for a few days now, though, to see what kind of job they have made of regulation. I might put it on something slightly less formal than the CW Cordovan for a while, maybe a black/orange Toshi Cordovan or the personalised strap made by Graham @footycrazy. It needs a substantial strap - bit hefty for a CW hybrid.

Re: C9 SS - welcome back!
Here it is on the @footycrazy strap I mentioned earlier. I’ve had it a few years now and it has darkened quite a bit, and the debossing isn’t as sharp as it was. I’ve boosted the contrast a bit so you can see it.
I think it dresses the watch down nicely.

Re: C9 SS - welcome back!
I think the strap goes very nicely with your watch & achieves the desired effect! Be interesting to hear about if the watch is regulated to your satisfaction. Mine is still keeping accurate time but I do need to be thinking about having CW service it.

Re: C9 SS - welcome back!
Thank you. I set and wound it when it arrived yesterday around midday, so it has been running for about 29 hours. My best guess is that it appears to have lost somewhere between 0 and 1s over that period. If it maintains that I’ll be very happy indeed.WileyECoyote wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 4:19 pm I think the strap goes very nicely with your watch & achieves the desired effect! Re: C9 SS - welcome back!
Beautiful watch, one that I’ve not seen before. Has the higher than expected repair cost been displaced by having it back in good working order?

Re: C9 SS - welcome back!
Are we allowed to ask how much you paid for the service? I have my own C9 that is currently working fine but it would be great to know how much I can expect when the time comes. I love the SH21 movement, is CW the only one capable of servicing this movement? Sorry never serviced a watch but my twelve X LE seems to be an easy movement to work on.
12x LE Steel, C9 5day small Seconds, Toledano & Chan B1.2.

Re: C9 SS - welcome back!
^^^ It was a service and repair combined. For just a service you’d be better to contact CW directly.

Re: C9 SS - welcome back!
Doing duty at my theatre lighting desk earlier, but it can go back in the box with the warm weather coming up. Time to break out something lighter on a bracelet…Twelve Ti.
