C61 shudders when wound - Updated

Post by Mark78 »

Noticed a few weeks back that on the rare occasions I wound my C61 from a standstill, the movement was shuddering and the crown hard to turn. Some research on the internet suggests that it may be the reverse wheels on the Eta 2824 movement seizing up (http://www.friendsoforis.com/forum/inde ... opic=36123), if indeed the watch contains that movement, I don't know for certain.

In any case the watch is off to CW towers for inspection / repair but wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I try not to wind the movement if I can help it so it's certainly not from over-winding, I'll provide an update with the outcome.

Never had this problem on my C60s. Wise choice to send it back for repair; it certainly doesn't sound normal to me

That sometimes happens with my C61 as well.

Sorry to hear your C61 has a problem.

You can NOT overwind an automatic.

Your diagnosis might be correct, something ain't right so I would have sent it off to CW as well.

Do you feel the rotor spinning when you wind the watch by hand? Mine had exactly the same problem and it is getting repaired under warranty.

Hi.
I have just started experiencing exactly the same problem with my C 60, it also happens on initial winding when the watch has been stopped for a few hours, it is quite a vibration and shudder that can be felt, had the watch for a couple of years and has never done this before.
Perhaps a call to C W to arrange a return and repair.
Thanks for brining this to my attention as I thought it was me and the way I was winding the watch.
Cheers

I think the shudder is probably caused by the rotor spinning, yes. I wonder if CW got a duff batch of movements at some point, hopefully these are just anomalies rather than a wider problem.

Hi.
Just rang and spoke to Callum who is sending a return package, so hope the vibration and shudder on my C60 will be resolved soon, no problems ( yet! ) with my other C60.
Thanks to the advice from the Forum members that I decided to contact C W as I was beginning to think it was the way I was winding the watch.

I had this issue on my C8 mk 2 vintage pilots. It was diagnosed as the rotor arm becoming disengaged. I am afraid it will have to go back for repair.

So the watch was repaired back in January but I picked up the C61 this morning and the shudder is back when winding by hand. Have e-mailed CW but really not happy as this will be third return in shy of 2 years ownership (1st for misaligned bezel) and it suggests the repair was inadequate. What would others do in this situation? I've asked about possibility of a replacement movement but is this feasible?

This is just unacceptable. More and more issues we keep hearing about. The returns department must be working flat out! :-(

The five year warranty is till effective; id' write a detailed email setting out they issue, the number of times the fault has supposed to have been fixed, and stating your extreme dissatisfaction. The watch is not fit for purpose; I'd press for a refund or a replacement - the squeaky wheel gets the grease - and you have a lot to squeak about. It hasn't been fixed, pure and simple.

Thanks, I'd prefer to keep the watch as I've had it a while and still like it (don't especially like the new C60 either) but going to take some persuading another repair will fix it unless it's a movement replacement. Anyway, returns package on its way so I'll update once I have more news.
