Bumping this as I cannot seem to post new threads.

So the battery was replaced on this C60 after the 4 second sweep kicked in, and the movement stopped. Tried different batteries but still fubar. Got put in a drawer and forgot about. Well I got the 4 second sweep on another C60, had the battery changed at Timpsons and the movement has stopped working on that one too. Seems a bit odd, 2 that have died after a battery swap....can you do anything wrong with a battery swap? (correct battery & decent brand was used both times)

^^^^ Who replaced the battery on the first, original, C60 for you and how long did that battery last before the watch stopped?

I know I may be stating the obvious to some, but care should be taken when changing batteries on quartz watches.
All that built-up static charge can quite easily fry a watch movement. Some are far more susceptible than others and I suspect this may be the case with yours.

Timpsons certainly don't take any care, at least from what I've witnessed at various outlets in the past.

For anyone attempting it themselves on a decent watch, I'd recommend an anti-static plug/strap setup that goes into a 3-pin wall outlet.

Have had similar issues on non CW watches. In both instances, the movements had gotten damaged by the old Renata battery leaking so the movements needed replacing.

I, too, had a quartz watch which utterly failed after a battery replacement. The previous battery had leaked some and I hadn’t seen it and the corrosion residue shorted the new battery.

Discounting the posssibility of someone sometime putting the battery in upside down and presumbly reversing polarity...

Send it back to mother for surgery? Buy a new movement on EBay and swap it out?

Which, I'm sorry to say, suggests that the movement has gone faulty.

The only thing I would suggest is to purchase a good battery tester. Watch batteries have a shelf life. I have purchased batteries from reputable manufacturers that were duds out of the package. A tester will at least let you know the battery is not the culprit.

I am assuming the movement is duff TBH, just making sure there isn't something to be done other than switching the battery out when it goes flat. I will have a trawl on ebay for a movement as when I have asked CW for an estimate for replacing the movement they come back with a default send it in & we will report back

^^^^ . . . . .but two movements being duff? That's an awfully big coincidence.

I'd at least check the health of your batteries first.

I would most certainly check the battery condition first.

Batteries could be old or handling a battery with your fingers can short out a battery.

Another bump, just got a text from Timpson asking for £220 to repair my watch! nice. Was working fine until they got their mitts on it. Anyone know the current cost to replace a movement on a quartz trident 300 at CW towers?

Sorry should have added, before my post at the top I dropped a C60 into Timpsons for a battery replacement (yes I know) and they seem to have killed it, so 2 C60s dead after a visit to Timpsons (yes I am a muppet)
