Re: C60 GMT with new Logo

Post by Leo David »

In a post dated Sep 07, 2011 7:45 pm I wrote

"...I really dislike the new branding. It doesn't appeal to me and I don't get the Chr. Ward thing at all. I think it would cheapen the look of the watch. That said I would buy other CW watches because I'm buying into a philosophy built on producing quality timepieces at competitive prices and I like the relative exclusivity of the brand. But I really dislike the new marketing style."

I will reserve final opinion until I see what the logo looks like on a watch on my wrist, but I have revised my initial view and I am more closely aligned with Richard's view leaning towards a decision not to buy a watch with the new logo.

It does make the C60 look like a downmarket fashion watch - something from Argos maybe? Sorry - my FLE might be going back if it's got this on it. And will need to save my pennies quickly to get a C90 Becketts before t.HIS happens across the range. However, maybe we're just old farts who aren't the future target market - in which case, Chr.WARD sales may well take off - though if the plan is to go downmarket then probably the prices probably need to come down too...?
C40, C8 (black/blue mk1), C6, C600, C9 FLE, C90 Becketts and C8 cream mk1 all sold!
Got Junghans, Omega, Tag, Tissot, Seiko, Magrette, Laco, Hamilton, Giuliano Mazzuoli, GShock, Welder...and Tag Connected and Garmin Fenix 3....

Blimey, I thought we'd got over this :( Surely the best thing to do is see what it looks like, if indeed it ever happens.

It’s hard to believe CW would make this change after so long and customers beginning to recognize the CW logo for what it is now. Imagine if Rolex changed theirs? Imagine roles no longer using the Mercedes symbol for their hour hand.

While I get what you are saying:

Rolex produces more watches with regular hands than merc style hands.
But as the sub is their most recognised product, you are right.

I don't like it at all. What is wrong with the old logo.

It is virtually identical to the logo used by Constantin Weiss. Not sure who got there first.

Is that right? I really didn't know that. I've only seen Rolex advertised in magazines and such and they all seemed to have the merc style hands, their signature symbol I guess. Actually, I did see a chinese made watch with the same make over and it looked like a Rolex. They are great at coppying stuff.

The problem still exists in many people's eyes. Why should those who dislike the new logo be quiet about it merely to placate those, such as yourself, who do like it? It seems to me to be a worthy topic for comment and discussion.

I must admit I'd like to know how the company reacted to the forum's "debate" on the topic.

I have to agree, the new logo loses the elegance/class and the British heritage it represents. That new c60 logo really ruins the look of the watch. Future purchases for me are c9,c90, c11, and c700. I dread what the new logo will look like on a c9 and the entire dress watch line. I feel the new logo would be a very bad move as it shows indecision by showing lack of confidence in their own logo. Cwl is trying to reinvent itself, boost market presence and increase sales. I truly don't think a new logo will achieve those goals

Has CW actually done this yet? The C60's being shown all still have the original logo. Where would I see one so I can judge for myself how it looks on the face of a watch? Anyway, I don't think it will ruin the look of a watch. You either like the style of a watch or you don't. Didn't someone point out that CW current logo was some kind of a copy version of another manufacturer? Is this the motovation behind the change?
