C60 GMT SKKO is fine, owner is acting a bit iffy.

Post by wagnetic »

I recently received a NN GMT C60 in the post as part of the NN C60 stock issue that got a few members.

Beautiful watch, and I'll be posting pics. I am however having some trouble with the GMT.

I'm setting the time and the GMT during the safe times. During which I set the GMT to +5 hours which for me is England and where my family is. I push the adjustment nob all the way in and screw in the crown.

Leave it overnight and for some reason the GMT is now only at +1 hour. Has anyone else had this issue?

Love the watch. But am a bit miffed about the movement. Eyeing up the NN C40 IPK on the site right now, v dangerous.

Thanks!

I don't want to seem rude but are you sure it's not connected to the fact that the GMT hand is running on 24 hours when the regular hour hand runs on 12 hours ?

You know what... Its very possible that it could be. The guide is a bit vague, though a re-read may be in order.

So you're saying that instead of it being +5 hours it's actually +17 hours? or something similar? wouldn't the additional 12 nullify how it would appear on the dial?

Thanks again.

For the normal hour/minute and seconds hand you read the time using the dail.
The GMT time is read on the bezel.

If the GMT hand is on the 6 o'clock dail marker it's a 12 hour marker on the bezel.

Not wearing it at the moment. Wanted to let it rest or some nonsense.

Might head home now to figure it out. The 24 hour bezel explanation would make a lot of sense...

The main hour hand goes around once every 12 hours as normal but the GMT hand only goes around once every 24 hours.

It is a bit weird but you get used to it. When the GMT hand is at 3 that means it is 6 am, at 6 means it is midday and at 9 menas it is 6 pm (18:00 hours) etc.

This sounds about right.
Because the hour hand moves around the dial every twelve hours and the GMT hand every twenty-four... overnight (eight hours?) the hands will get four hours closer.

Definitely time to read the manual wagnetic. :D

At least I have the forum here to ask these silly questions to.

What Ian said is the most helpful!

Basically, the normal hour hand goes round once in 12 hours, like most other watches.
The GMT hand rotates once every 24 hours.

If you set it 5 hours ahead and checked back 8 hours later, the "distance" the GMT hand moved in that time would only be four hours (but it's 8 on the 24h bezel!) so it would "appear" only 1 hour ahead.

To read the hour on the GMT hand, double the number written on the dial :

When it points 3, it's 6, when it points 8, it's 16 (4 PM). The GMT hand makes a complete turn in 24 hours, instead of 12 for the hour hand.

If you locate it (just under the crown - it is a mini usb) I have some cracking software.......

Just to supplement tartines picture.

I think the dial on the Steinhart below helps the explanation i.e. the outer 24 hour dial is for the GMT hand and the inner 12 hour dial for local time.

On the C60 GMT you need to read the bezel as the hour time for 2nd timezone

approx 03:43 GMT on Steinhart
Image
approx 15:09 GMT on CW C60
