Thank you for the comments - I had got myself well and truly worked up about this last night then wiser heads ( my wife and sons surprisingly) got involved - it's not worth the heart attack I was heading towards - so this morning i've paid the £52.95 and will just get on with my life !
Thanks again to you all

I'm still waiting to hear about mine (they've had it over a week).

If I have to pay to get it fixed, I will never wear it again.

Isn't that what they call robbing Peter to clothe Paul? Or maybe cutting off your nose to spite your face?

When I wound it up, it wouldn't start which seemed odd. I kept winding it and it still didn't start but I am experienced enough that when I felt the slight pressure at the end of the wind I knew something was off and stopped winding.

It turned out that I needed to give the watch a vigorous shake to get it started. So, if the OP was inexperienced, it's easy to see how he could very well have carried on winding the watch justifiably expecting the second hand to start moving.

Perhaps there's a problem batch of watches?
This is interesting. After winding and pushing the crown back in I have to tap or shake mine to get it going. Like I have to say "hey, wake up!" Then it's fine. Any thoughts anyone?
Cheers

Hmm. Two could be a coincidence. Anyone else?

Just got an email saying I have to pay £ 42.95 to get it repaired as over winding is not covered by the warranty.

If they insist on this, sadly it will be the end of a relationship with the company that so far has seen me buy 3 new and 1 used watch.

What is the point of a warranty if they just blame the user?

I'm pretty disgusted.

I wonder why the price difference for apparently the same fault? Is this a common problem for hand winds in general?

Is there guidance in the handbook on winding? The company's attitude seems to indicate that one should stop winding before resistance is felt. When is that!!?

I consider this a stitch-up!

I won't be buying again on this basis alone....

This is cr@p customer service from CW. I feel your disappointment, but there is enough information within this thread to challenge them using the relevant consumer law. Having explained that if you get charged it's over for you, what's to lose?

Every time I read one of these threads, the word 'shoddy', in respect to CW's behaviour comes to mind and sadly, it's not the first time I've used it either.

Frankly, I'm disappointed. It's not like you can take it in to an AD and reason with them. An internet based business lives or dies on its reputation and this has got to be bad practice for the small cost involved.

Is it just me, but when I wind each one of my C5s I can feel the crown getting progressively harder to turn.
