How scratch resistant is the PVD coating supposed to be? Does anyone know?

I have G10 straps with PVD buckles that have had some hammer and no scratches yet my C40IPK is showing stainless steel through on one of the lug edges already, and i've been treating it with extreme care! will post some pics once I've found the camera............

Wearing my C4 IPK now, 13 months old, has had one strap replacement because of brassing at the start, but this one has seen fairly regular use and has absolutely no signs of wear at all. I think the C40 IPK is the same coating and strap?
