Both my c11 and Makaira have it on the outside, so either I am very lucky, or the recipe has indeed changed somewhere along the line!

My Makaira has it as well; the crystal is invisible at most angles! My Makaira was I think part of the second batch to ship out at the launch in December 2012 so it's an old model. I will certainly tell the difference when mine comes in. :o

Its strange because I have booth here and I can see the changes. Actually I cant upload images, there it would be more than visible...
If they are saying there is no change, that is a blatant untruth if watches are now shipping with only an internal coating. I have two C11s, a vintage (away at the moment for regulation as it was running fast) and a C11 chrono, both of which have a distinct blue-ish tone to reflections on the crystal, from where the a/r coating is on the outside surface. I get the same effect on my Breitling, and that is coated both sides of the crystal too.

I don't know about the Makaira dive watches, but the aviation ones like my two *were* definitely coated on both sides. The dive ones probably have a thicker crystal, so they could be different?

I think that's a distinct possibility...

This is the explanation I was given by Chris in 2011 when I asked about the Museum Grade crystal.
[Chris Ward] the crystal is still sapphire and it still has the anti-reflective properties of all our other watches… the application being on the underside. However the glass is further treated giving a polarising effect thus reducing the amount of light reflected. It is the same principle as that used to cover famous paintings and photographs inside museums and exhibition halls.

Kip, have you found anything out yet? I'm going to send Wera an email checking what's up as I'm getting worried. At first I speculated that perhaps the crystal had been cut back to a normal-type and the price had been appropriately reduced but with CW themselves saying it hasn't changed, I want to be sure I'm going to get one with the normal clarity. Also, some are getting them in just as usual. I will put on my Sherlock hat and investigate. :indy:

And the risk of encouraging the wrath of Kip......

Either I have just been especially lucky, or my crystal has been installed upside down, but there is definitely an AR coating on the outside of my c11.

No wrath forthcoming. I was just repeating what I was told.

Chris has been away, but I am also inquiring as to the the difference (if any) from the currently stated MG with AR08 coating. :?

Go with the first strap. You can always buy additional straps down the road, which is part of the fun of watch collecting.
