How is this the first time someone’s captured it looking like this?
Thanks, I did post a more detailed explanation on FB but some mod seems to have deleted it so I can't copy and paste it here. In brief, my iPhone photos look rather bland and do the dial no justice, so I took RAW photos using my dSLR and a good macro lens in direct sunlight indoors. Then I processed those into JPEG. Hence the images have a higher dynamic range than you would see naked eye. They show what the dial looks like under a good quality loupe under bright lighting.

The last image is simply a 100% pixel crop of the image above it, to the details. You would only see level of detail this using a loupe.

The video I linked is using my iPhone. How the dial appears to the naked eye under my LED ceiling spotlights is in between the video and these photos, in terms of "starryness" and impact, and the dial background looks blue but the copper oxide flakes sparkle so much that it appears blue-purple overall. The dial can even look completely black in very low light.
Photographically I'd agree with that as a process. I find that with the naked eye I get many more "dancing dots of light" than the phone cam captures / presents. Also I find that the phone cam wants to show a lot of reflection off the crystal when you're trying to show off the dancing dots/stars so the end result is a dial with fewer sparkles than reality where the whole dial is alive! I don't have a true macro lens but I'll have a go with extension tubes tomorrow.

I agree, these photos are amazing! I had a tough time convincing myself not to get this watch, especially since I love moonphase complications. However, I feel the texture on the moon could be a bit better, since it appears pixelated in most close ups, even though I'm sure it's not visible while on the wrist. On top of that, I'm actually hoping they will eventually release one similar to this but with the upcoming SH 21, which I'd probably buy in a heartbeat.

You can't really capture the sparkle on a still image can you. You need moving pictures really.

The moon is pixelated, but only when seen through a loupe. Or perhaps with better eyes than mine and looking very close to it. You can't see any pixellation in normal use at all.

Thanks, that's good to hear!

I like the watch overall, but I think I will wait a bit to see if they release one with the new SH21, that would certainly be a deciding factor.

And in the meantime I'll keep an eye on clearance events, maybe I get lucky as I did with my recently purchased Aquitaine GMT.

Like this a lot, but really intrigued by C1 Moonglow - however wish it had the Bader or Consort Bracelet.

@JasH After giving it some serious thought and watching dozens of reviews, I went ahead and placed a (pre)order for C1 Moonphase. But I must say, this thread and your posts really tipped the balance for me.

I'm a huge fan of moonphases, which makes me a bit wary of being dissappinted since I like realistic looking moons such as the tiny moon on my Speedmaster Moonphase, but all in all I'm pretty sure it will be great.

And if CW releases an even better version a few years from now, I guess I wouldn't mind adding another moonphase to my collection.

I hope it meets your expectations  I do think the moon is realistic on this. The YT video I linked is a fair representation of what the naked eye sees.

The great thing of course is that with CW you have 60 days to decide

Thanks, Jas! The more I look at photos and videos of it, the more I think it will. I wasn't entirely sold on it at first when I saw the preview, but it's been growing on me ever since.

I think that with such a lively dial, it's probably hard to capture the essence with still shots, so at first it seemed a bit simplistic to me (maybe due to not having indices) and most close-ups make the moon look pixelates, making the watch appear a bit underwhelming. But then I've seen other pictures and videos, and now I don't think that's the case anymore, the dial has enough sparkle already so adding even more elements would have been distracting. By the way, I think the pictures you posted might be the best I've seen, even better than stock shots.

To be honest, I never returned a watch so far, and I buy all my watches online. I try not to hit the buy button unless I'm really sure about it. So you could say I'm already past the point of no return with this as my mind is already set. But I agree that it's nice to have the return option as a safety net.

Wow. I was looking into the moonphases yesterday, and, well, we all know real-life pictures differ from ads. Clearly, these photos exceeded all my expectations. Now, this is, of course, on the wish list!

@JasH My Moonphase arrived today. I must say, this watch clearly looks much better in real life than any photos or videos. You were right, the details on the moon look perfect to the naked eye.

What I found really interesting, is the dial color. And I'm not talking about aventurine, but the actual color which is a bit more purple than in any photos or videos I saw, except yours. I thought you used some kind of lightning effect combined with long exposure, but it turns out you captured the essence of the watch better than CW and most reviewers out there. Even my own photos are siglificantly darker than the actual color.

Not sure why, but I'm not complaining. The color is just perfect, not to dark to be boring and not too purple to be.. purple.

It is a beautiful watch overall and it was definately worth the wait!
