Thanks for the look in gold "T". I really think it might work, yet I agree with Daz, the rose gold may be better.

I have never been impressed with the Croton brand, although sometimes they do come up with some nice looking ones. It is hard for me to get past all the hype on ShopNBC and truly believe how great a watch it is supposed to be, not junk though, just over hyped.

I have never heard of or seen a Vestal till now. Not impressed with there web site , but maybe i am just to old. The wood on those watches looks like paneling that used to be in my parents basement, didn't like it then , and don't like it now. Interesting look on the band though.

I like your versions of the C2 much better in SS and gold with the camphor and Olive ash burl, or the earlier design we came up with.

Looks like this qualifies as "brawn and class", shall we put Terminator down for one?

Nico, that's pretty cool.

The US watch maker Nixon also does a lot of watches in wood.

Found these on ebay same company, Vestal
Well they do look artificial basically due to the types of wood they have chosen to use. Even if the wood is real the types used will never look right due to the fact they have no real class to them. However to date they are the best attempts I have seen to produce a "woody" so far in relative modern times. I dont know why current watch designers opt for cheap looking wood finishes though. If I walk into a shop and I see a piece of furniture that had a crap wood finish then I would know it is not going to bust the bank or will it impress my friends. However if I walk into another furniture shop and see some classy elegant design made out of say Burr Walnut then I know that the moths in my wallet are all going to die of a heart attack.

I dont know why these companies do it. They must think that "Average Joe" has no aspiration to own nice things and likes to wear crap tat on his wrist. Then when they dont sell they probably wonder why they then cant give the things away.

Go figure I say

Thanks for that Carman. They are slightly different in that the wood is used for the case rather than on the dial. They are certainly not cheap though.

Anyway back to wood on dials. I have been feeding Chris the odd image on this. It is hard to gauge how he really feels on this idea as he is becoming a man of few words although I reckon that is because he is wading through and replying to loads of e,mails nowadays lol.

Well I have a sneaky feeling that Mr Ward kind of likes his motor cars. Certainly at least one CWL watch already takes its influence from a car ie the C3. Well guess what ????? Many cars are associated with certain wood types used in their interiors. The list is endless be it Rolls, Aston or even Jaguar etc. Even Mercedes got in on the act. Modern Merc's tend to use Walnut nowadays but many of us who are a little bit older will remember as little boys drooling about the Merc SL or S class etc we hoped we could afford when we grew up lol. A prime example for Mercedes for many years in their top models was the wood called Zebrano. The point basically is that CWL could use as a marketing tool different woods used in different cars. We might not have got to own one when we were kids but we can maybe get the chance to own a little piece of one now.

Just a thought.

My own personal opinion i dont lke woody faces, back to the more mechanical faces after all this is a very fine piece of engineering. Not to be spoilt by a piece of wood on the face .lets get back the other issues like power reserve and not so much about moon phase not all of us wants to know what the moon Doing .:(
