Iv been watching this closely and with anticipation. Will this be my first cw watch? I was hoping for, not another diver or tridentesk design.
Well it's certainly none of those, a brilliant piece of engineering and very beautiful to look at.
The price is excellent for such a piece.
Unfortunately I won't be dipping into my savings though.
The aesthetics imo are ruined by that bird, it makes the watch, not playfully, but imo ridiculous.
Any other striking design would have been preferable.
It boarders on a child's mickey mouse watch
Unfortunate.

^^^ I wonder to what extent, if any, the "bird" was an invention born out of necessity, its proverbial mother, so to speak?

Unbelievable drop from CW! The amount of ingenuity and balls shown here is staggering. My only wonder is why didnt they use a COSC version of the SW200. In the grand scheme of pricing, it seems a no brainer to upgrade it.

It looks splendid and puts me in mind of the reveal of the C900 monopusher. I’m sorry to say though that the sound is a tad underwhelming. I fully accept that our senses are assailed on a daily/hourly basis by other notifications but if the recording on the website is anything to go by, I would miss the hourly chime and only really appreciate it if I was in the middle of nowhere, doing nothing but waiting for the chime.

Sounds like initial sales are brisk. :) I think the Bel Canto is artfully beautiful and impressively engineered. I’d chime in on, “why not COSC?” as well.

Well done, CW! This one is a winner for me. Now, to collect enough pennies before the Bel Canto is sold out. I should have been more moderate with my other spending.

My totally unsubstantiated guess is based on MF saying in the zoom preview that they had to rearrange some bits and pieces inside the case in order to create a bit of an echo space to help the sound resonate.

So I'm guessing that there is no real point in getting a COSC movement (certified only at point of testing) and then taking it partially apart and adding a module.

Bahnstormer_vRS wrote: Tue Nov 01, 2022 4:23 pm It's precisely the Industrial, non-dress watch look that attracts me. Grade 5 titanium case is 'tool watch' in my book.

If it had been polished steel and all dress watch looking I would probably have passed on it.

As it is? . . . . . .

Guy
I agree.

If it was a traditional design striking hour that is just basically a dress watch that makes a noise, with generally no visual interest, beyond the looks of the non striking hour version of the same watch, I wouldn’t have been interested.

Will I wear it as an understated dress watch in preference to a Moser or Nomos? Nope.

Will I wear it as my bling dress watch in preference to a large Reverso? Nope.

Will I wear it when I would normally wear a Rolex, Tudor or Omega? Yes for doing non active stuff, no for active.

Will I wear it to bring a smile to my face as something different? Absolutely#.

Odds on someone, somewhere saying before the day is out - “but that’s Tudor, Omega, Bremont (etc…) money” - a racing certainty. :)

(# I will just have to remember that I am not wearing one of my normal tool watches and ensure that I take it off before swimming )

Depending upon when you have placed your order, I was told mid-Dec so yours should be earlier if pre-ordered was done a few days ago.

When I was sorting mine out on Friday and agreeing the number, I requested one from the December batch, which based on the number I was after I thought would be fine and it was confirmed to me that was fine.

I don’t know the order in which they are produced, but any preorders paid for before live on the website are likely to be done first. Since they have been live I put another in my basket and went to checkout, at which point it was indicating the end of December. Did the same a couple of hours later and it was showing February.

I am not buying three I was just checking and you generally have to go to checkout to see the estimated pre delivery date! :)

I am sure you will be putting up your pics before me.

Preorders have slipped to March 2023 now!
Do we really have to lend CW our money for 5 months before we get our watch?

If you put one of these watches into the shopping basket/cart on the website, it now says these orders won't ship until February... if you've pre-ordered previously then whatever date you have been given I'm sure will be honoured  :D

Since I chose number 029/300 (for my birthday), I can expect delivery around mid to late November. At least that's what Matt Sewell said
