Re: Buying Used vs. New
For what it is worth my opinion is this.
Forum first, Ebay second or maybe third.
CW Forum members are honest, in my experience and fairly priced.
We may disagree on certain things, but we are honest.

Not a single bad review on regarding a forum purchase.

Re: Buying Used vs. New
I've often wondered about that, Kip. I don't know much about eBay but the feedback system seems quite impersonal.Kip wrote:Not a single bad review on regarding a forum purchase.
If, and I stress IF, you were dissatisfied with a watch you bought on here, would you:
Contact the seller via PM and try to come to an arrangement?
Try to involve the Mods, though I'm not exactly sure what their remit is in such cases?
Go full-bore on the forum with a negative review?
Our feedback usually goes along the lines of: "Charming bloke, pleasure to do business with, real gent, &c."
Having said that, there must be people who don't write positive feedback. I have certainly sold two watches that got no public feedback on the forum, both interestingly from low posters.

Re: Buying Used vs. New
I'd suggest some feel the transaction is completed when the goods exchange hands, so the commenting on the seller is superfluous and unnecessary. Ditto feedback on ebay for some, though that's why ebay bugs the heck out of you if you've 'forgotten' to leave feedback. I take no feedback as equalling a satisfactory transaction - - you can be sure someone unhappy would raise holy hell.

I think to most of us a small forum is different. A question of good manners, really.

Yea, sadly you can't legislate good manners. But some people simply don't like to talk or feel, as you said, the "Charming bloke, pleasure to do business with, real gent, etc." is a tad repetitive even if true.

Re: Buying Used vs. New
I think the feedback is essential. It builds a picture and a reputation for the seller, and confirms that there has been some satisfactory transactions in the past - which is massively reassuring for the next prospective buyer.
This applies equally on here or on eBay in my opinion, and to be honest, it annoys me when people can't be bothered.

Lost count how many times I have given something away for free and not had a thank you face to face.downer wrote:I think the feedback is essential. Will I do it now answer no.
Manners cost nothing, if you know what manners are.
Re: Buying Used vs. New
Always preferred buying and selling from forums in the past for various things.

Despite the alarming lack of feedback, I would probably still buy from you Steve!Amor Vincit Omnia wrote:I've often wondered about that, Kip. I don't know much about eBay but the feedback system seems quite impersonal.Kip wrote:Not a single bad review on regarding a forum purchase.

Now.... if you could just sell some 45mm divers.............
Joking aside, to me knowing the seller from thread interactions etc on here is by far the most important aspect.
Re: Buying Used vs. New
I have bought 2nd on here back in 2010 and had a very positive experience. I think you can get a good idea of the person you are dealing with by the way they speak with you and their posting in the forum. I am based in Ireland and use a local site also called Adverts .ie It sells all and anything but what works really well there is that both the buyer and seller can leave feedback for each other so when looking to buy the first thing I generally do is look at the sellers feedback and other items they have sold to get an idea. The site also has a sister discussion forum again for any subjects and you tend to find the posters to that forum dip in and out of trading so you know a bit more about who you are dealing with. Kip, if you are reading this post, it would be worth you checking it out as both the selling site and the discussion forums are nicely set out. the sales site also charges a small 'success' fee on all completed sales which helps to fund the running of both sites.....not saying you could do the same or would need the funding but it works well.
Re: Buying Used vs. New
Hi all, I'm new here as well. I'm torn between one of the new 38mm Tridents with the ceramic bezel or looking for a Moonphase. I quite like the idea of supporting a British brand as well. Some of you might know me from the tz forum.
