Bronze C60 300 - long overdue
Re: Bronze C60 300 - long overdue
I’ve had mine on all day and my Mrs either hasn’t noticed or has given up rolling her eyes when another watch makes an appearance

@patster @Trs1982 I'm assuming this is the distressed leather strap? Can I ask both of you what you think of it? Does it seem like it's holding up? There have been issues with older distressed straps where the black specks start coming off. I'm wondering if CW has fixed that issue. Thanks, and congrats on your watches.

Honestly, it’s too early to tell. I’ve worn mine for about 16 hours total on that strap since it arrived. It’s still extremely stiff and needs more wear to free it up a bit.MichaelMD wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 6:17 pm I posted this on the wrong forum

I’m fairly new to CW, so haven’t seen anything regarding their distressed leather straps degrading, so I hope it’s not the case.
It’s definitely the better looking of the two that I have; I’ve mentioned it in another post, but I’m really pleasantly surprised how well the striped tide strap looks on this watch, and for more casual wear I would probably go to that, leaving the leather in reserve. Either way, the watch is going to get a lot of use. I’m pretty much decided that I want to keep it box-fresh, so will need to set myself a cleaning regime to avoid patina.

The distressed strap appears ok, although I have been mainly wearing the standard camel leather and hybrid straps, I did apply several coats of leather protector to the distressed strap and nothing came off it, I would have expected it to have removed any colours that weren’t fully ingrained.MichaelMD wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 6:17 pm I posted this on the wrong forum

@MichaelMD
The trick with CW's distressed vintage oak is to treat it with leather conditioner, I use Gliptone, as soon as you get it to restore some of the natural oils that have been leached out in the distressing process.
This will stabilise the colour and finish on the leather and minimise the risk of further colour peeling off.

Wow! That’s fast. So CW’s bronze is just bronze not like the bronze aluminum I read about on the black bay bronze? I guess u are coool w it?
Just feel a little wasted that the nice polished sides have to be covered w Patina.

Yeah it’s CuSn6 so I think it will develop patina quickly, it got caught out in the rain yesterday so that probably helped!
Not sure how I feel about it, curious I guess, I always intended to let it go wherever it wanted but like you say the whole light catcher thing is going to be wasted. I have citric acid and bicarb, etc if it gets too depressing!

Thanks for the feedback. Beautiful watch and it looks really good on the distressed leather strap.Trs1982 wrote:Honestly, it’s too early to tell. The issue with past distressed straps is the darker black flakes would gradually come off over time. But according to Guy this can be prevented with leather conditioner. The newer distressed straps look different to me than the old ones, so it's possible CW has already addressed this issue.
Here is a picture of an older distressed vintage leather CW strap with the issue just as an FYI.

The whole "living metal" is the big draw of bronze watches for a lot of folks. I'd let it go for a month or two and see what you think.patster wrote:My first area of patina forming after 48 hours…Trs1982 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:47 pmHonestly, it’s too early to tell. Thank you for the feedback on the leather strap. The whole combo looks really good. I'm definitely leaning in the direction of picking one of these up.
Re: Bronze C60 300 - long overdue
This watch looks stunning when brand new. I know the whole purpose of bronze is the ability to let it patina, but what a shame that after just a couple of days the light catcher case is already losing its original beauty to patina. If they made this watch in a bronze or rose gold coating that didn't patina, it would be more viable for my taste.

Interesting, looking at mine, where the creases are forming where it goes through the buckle I can see yellow lines, but leather conditioner more or less removes them. Here is a picture of an older distressed vintage leather CW strap with the issue just as an FYI.
I also applied bees wax to my normal oak camel strap and it looks a bit more distressed, probably looks better to the eye than in the photo, also the watch still looks rose gold in real life, the photo makes it look like it’s been buried for two weeks for some reason - I’m hoping the camel strap and the case patina will meet in the middle at some point and I can keep the distressed strap for best!
Re: Bronze C60 300 - long overdue
With regard to patina the bronze watch I posted on page 8 is about 18 months old, lightly worn, and not been in water, and has turned to a darker tan fairly uniformly. When I removed the nato to fit the velcro strap, I did notice a hidden bit of verdigris, so I'll post a picture. I often think of reverting it back to its original golden colour, but never have. Here's pictures of both lugs
Re: Bronze C60 300 - long overdue
Mine can’t change quick enough for me. I really like the aged bronze look but the brand new rose gold colour of new CW bronze isn’t to my taste.
I’d previously bought pre-aged bronze watches from CW to avoid the slow process but I don’t think they were available from launch with this one.
