Big Ben

Post by Ste_ac »

I watched the documentary the other night on Channel 4. I noticed one of the clockmakers or horologists set Big Ben by his wrist watch. I only caught a glimpse of the side of his watch. I wonder what it was having such an important job helping to set probably the world's most famous clock. :D

Perhaps he was only using it to set the date? They use an egg timer for the actual clock! :D

Only seen the first 45 minutes of the programme, so far. Completely fascinating.

Fascinating that the movement 'ticks' only every two seconds, has to be wound manually (couldn't they have added an electric motor?) and is regulated by adding or taking off 1d (one old penny coin).
