battery for my C1 Russell

Post by jimbo »

Hi Folks,

I need a replacement battery for my 2009 C1 Russell.

The paperwork says a type 341

On Amazon and the bay they have them.

How hard is it to unscrew the back and replace myself (7 tiny screws) or should I go to a shop?

A photo for those that don't know these watches :)

cheers Jimbo

If you've got the appropriate tiny screwdriver or would buy a set from the sources you've mentioned for just a few pounds I'd say have a go.

Definitely have a go, the correct tools and a few YouTube videos on battery changes and you're good to go..

It's quite easy to remove the screws and the backplate. However, be careful not to lose the screws - they have a tendency to disappear in front of your eyes! Also, make sure they are tight when replacing them as they are prone to coming loose and dropping out after some wear. A tiny bit of loctite would be advisable.

I suggest using a tray with raised sides. You don't want to be hunting for tiny screws on the floor, or worse still, carpet.

Battery ordered, will have a go. I tried to see if screws tight and didn't want to damage any, but all turned easily.

I am giving this watch to my son who has always liked it, and to be honest has not had a lot of wrist time since i bought it. It will be a 21st birthday present for him. (He got a very decent guitar for his 18th).

I will take your tips, cheers Jimbo

PS Welsh lad.... I hope it goes well for you tomorrow!

Hi Jimbo,

I've started doing battery changes on all my watches of late.
Takes patience and as other's have suggested use a dish of some sort to catch and keep safe the tiny screws.
Very rewarding job though ;)

TIP - I bought 2 magnetic dishes from the middle isle at my local Aldi, these are just the job when removing small screws.

Hi all
Just changed the battery, couldn't believe how easy the back plate came off. This is NOT a waterproof watch :)
Whole thing took about 10 minutes, as my fat fingers didn't get the screws back in first time.
I used my favourite beanie hat to sit the watch on and collect the screws
Really excited to give it to him when he returns from a weekend bender with his mates down in Bristol this Sunday
Thanks for your tips, cheers Jimbo

You need to become adept at using tweezers. :)

A magnifying glass would also have been helpful as well Kip :)

Congratulations on the battery replacement. It’s a job I used to do with my digital watches back in the ’70s and ‘80s. I only do it with my quartz watches that don’t have high water resistance these days. It’s worth the 10 USD to me for my local jeweler to swap and pressure check those watches that need it.

Ha..... my son wanted to wear the watch again for a significant birthday treat for me yesterday ( birthday not yet but soon, but, he and my daughter are both shift workers and this the only day they could be off together).... any way i digress....
The battery has died that I put in it.
Is it about 2 years for the life of a battery?
Anyway, I put in "C1 battery " into search engine and this thread popped up..... with me starting it... I thought it was amusing, as I had forgotten I had done it before.
So again thanks for the support I had last time
