aviator II sq calender opening

Post by Don Eiler »

Am I the only person to prefer the classic round opening? I am ready to order two [one for my son] but can't pull the trigger till I feel better about the square. Anyone prefer the square and why? Any chance of a model III revision to circle? Help me love the square or lament together with me. Don E.

Don,

I'm afraid I'm in the lament group... don't like the square date window at all, but to be fair, I don't like the MkII anywhere near as much as the Mk1 - I have an early Mk1 with black date wheel and I think its fab.
You pays your money and you takes your choice.... buy a black faced Mk1!!

Doesn't really bother me too much one way or the other. Certainly would not stop me buying one!

To each his own. :D (And welcome to the forum, by the way..).

I feel sometimes that I would prefer to know what day it is first rather than the date. That's what country living does to you!

I'm not a fan of the square window either. Thought I'd post a couple images from the CW site for those who weren't sure which aviator you were referring to. The new C5 Aviator has the square window. Image

The C8 MKII still has a circle window. Image

as long as the window is finished nicely I'm really not bothered about the shape..

I prefer the circle, but I don't like its placement on the MKII… Weird.

too close to the '3' which should be deleted just leaving the date window

I don't think the C8 with 2824/SW200 should have a date. The movement is small relative to the case size and the date window is in a place that is too far from the dial edge. It'd look lonely if the number were removed and, as it is, looks too close to the number.

Back to the C5... I quite like the square window - I think the date is more legible than in a round window. The white date wheel looks OK on this one too.

And that's just me off the C8… Hadn't even looked at the date before, but it looks horribly placed to me now.

Money saved!

That just goes to prove that you weren't fast enough buying it - you need to splash out before you read other peoples' opinions - other people are always wrong. :D

You do realise that 'money saved' means 'money spent on something else', don't you?

For what it is worth, I prefer a square date, round looks a bit cramped. The date window is nicely framed in the MK II, I certainly wouldn't let it put you off.
