Ashamed to say , I can't wear a quartz watch anymore .
Re: Ashamed to say , I can't wear a quartz watch anymore .
I set my watches to my phone.
Personally I can't really wear my quartz watches anymore either. Even in scenarios that require a beater I will wear a beater mechanical or no watch at all. There are some quartz watches that I really like out there but I trend to put that money to a mechanical watch that I like the same or more.

I don't like quartz watches and would be lying if I said otherwise.

Re: Ashamed to say , I can't wear a quartz watch anymore .
Having grown to appreciate and love watches over the last few years I have invlined towards owning those with mechanical movements (as do many watch enthusiasts) ... however, my C2 Lido (quartz) style, looks and feel wise is pretty hard to beat. The accuracy aspect is obviously a bonus (for when I need to be on time) but everything else about it is, I feel, top drawer. Having owned the C20 (mechanical variant) I have to say I prefer the dial more on the C2 (and it was a bargain in the new year sale)

I prefer Autos but its not a deal breaker, my collection is 50/50 at the moment. Some time the height size and difference just make quartz fit better on my weedy wrist.

Isn't it cumbersome to lug a winder around the whole day? Much easier to wear the watch on your wrist I should think.hughesyn wrote:(my Omega is running about -1 sec per day on a winder, I can live with that).

I'm wearing this quartz today and I love it and it it has confirmed that for me there is definitely a place for quartz in my small collection
Cheers now, Paul
Re: Ashamed to say , I can't wear a quartz watch anymore .
Two things:
1. Millions of people happily wear quartz watches: they do the job of telling the time accurately - until the battery runs out. I still own three - all beloved and having sentimental value. Included in this is my beloved C1.
2. Contrary to what the OP said at the begging of the thread (hope it was tongue in cheek!) - I will not be selling my mechanicals when the Apple watch is launched. All my tech pals keep pestering me about it, increasingly as the day approaches. But I'm standing firm.

Quartz watches "feel" the same on the wrist, it's all in your mind
I often wore an old Seiko to the gym, but sadly when I returned it to Timpson for a free battery swap recently, they reported the movement wasn't! I'll be wearing my quartz Sekonda instead from now on, unless I forget and rock up in a Breitling or an Omega
Mechanical vs Quartz is pure snobbery really (and quartz is more accurate!). I've got both and each have their place.
I'm swayed by the snobbery too, though. When I bought a Longines Hydroconquest, I'd decided to go quartz, but in the end succumbed to an automatic, even though the watches were identical except for the movement.
I'm more than happy wearing my Digi-Ana Breitling B-1, though, and, to be honest, rather like the cheap Sekonda I wear to the gym and a few other cheapish quartz watches I own (including two early Seikos I bought off eBay before Christmas).
I won't be buying an Apple Watch, though, no way, no how!

You should get a good one thenCirrus wrote:Nope - can feel the rotor on mine wobbling as I typesnowman wrote:Quartz watches "feel" the same on the wrist, it's all in your mind
What watch is it? I often hear of people feeling the 'wobble' of a rotor, but I've never experienced it myself. Maybe I'm just insensitive?

Apart from the Bulova on the first page what other quartz watches have a sweeping second hand?

Re: Ashamed to say , I can't wear a quartz watch anymore .
as I might have alluded to earlier in the thread, the only "quartz" watches I will consider are Precisionist or Tuning Fork movements. I find a sweeping second hand calming, whilst the tick of a quartz is distracting to me if i'm honest. There is also the issue of the second hand hitting the markers absolutely flush that would cause me massive irritation if they didn't on a standard quartz.
The 2 quartz I currently have in my collection are a Blue C6 and a very early C3 (Swiss Movt, NOT Swiss Made) each of which I haven't worn in years.
Bulova seemed to have upped their game with the latest Accutron II releases and I've hopeful for more stunning pieces from them in the future.

Vintage pieces with a Tuning Fork movement.Magnus wrote:Apart from the Bulova on the first page what other quartz watches have a sweeping second hand?
Omega F300hz
Titus
Longines
Eterna
Hamilton
and of course Bulova.
Autodromo uses a "MecaQuartz" movement in their Chronographs that have a sweeping Chrono hand, but the standard second hand sub dial ticks. The movement is a Seiko so they probably have these models too.

Tuning fork watches aren't quartz...
Electronic, yes, quartz, no.
