Anyone have issues with Trident C60 600?

Post by hamavos »

Hey folks - I'm very new here (after just lurking for a while), so please bear with me.

I'm a HUGE fan of the trident series and have owned a lovely C60 600 trident pro since 2016 and it's easily the one watch which really speaks to me (and that I can afford)... :D

That being said, this watch has had *several* issues with required the return to CW for repairs - various things from my mistreatment (I dropped it on my bathroom floor once) to just really annoying issues with repairs not being properly done (and poorly communicated).

So - my question: how common are such issues with this watch? When I poke around here and in general online reviews, I really don't see any such complaints. Am I just missing them? Do most people experience really good / flawless experiences with their watches??

I love this watch so much and, being a gift from my now-deceased mom, it's also very sentimental to me...

I don't know if I'm just cursed or have rotten luck, or if there really are issues with this watch which should make me reconsider my attachment.
I ask especially as I am about to return it for the FOURTH time (this time, the second-hand is nonfunctional, though everything else works fine). :(

Thanks for any and all insights or suggestions!

Have had no problems with my 2015 trident. Still runs well within spec too.

Never had any issues with the Trident 600’s I had. Set a standard for me.

Sorry you’re having problems with your watch. I’ve been issue-free with my CW watches, some of which are over a decade old. As it is out of warranty, try your local jeweler/watchmaker for a repair. It might be something simple which could get repaired quickly.

I'm probably about to put a curse on my 600s but I have 3 from around 2015/2016 that have been supremely reliable and retain their looks and condition through to now, without any servicing so far.

Mine seems to stop after wearing it for a couple of days. It's the least reliable watch I own. Probably should return to CW for attention, but I'm a bit "out of love" at the moment.

Had/have many CWs, including Tridents.
Occasionally, I have had issues and had to return them to CW for repair (when in warranty).
One ( an SH21) came back with the same problem and had to go back a 2nd time.

Having said all of the above, I am mindful that the problems encountered have been few and far between and most of my CW watches have been perfectly fine, despite some being 10 to 15+ yrs old.

At the end of the day, mechanical instruments will always be subject to problems, especially wrist watches which have minute working parts which are subjected to a lot of wearer movement.

As another contributor has said, if your watch is out of warranty, and it is a Sellita/ETA movement, consider using a local, reputable watch repair person/centre.

Overall, I have and continue to be extremely pleased with the quality and value of CW watches.

I hope you get your treasured watch fixed up soon👍
CW watch count - enough to keep me very happy, but always room for more!

Thanks, all, for the encouragement and experiences.

I guess I've just had really bad luck. I think most of my issues, at least after the initial drop on the bathroom floor ( :( ), have been poor repairs at CW, but I'm gonna hope this fourth repair is good.

I really love my watch, and I'm just trying to not get too discouraged. I'd maybe give up and just get a new one, but I absolutely love the Mk2 with the guilloche dial, etc.

It seems to me that all of the issues stem from the initial drop.

What isn't okay is that the issues should be handled the first time without several round trips. I have had a similar experience with CW service on a warranty repair. There were two obvious issues and only one was addressed. The watch had to make a second trip. What is even worse is that the second fault should have been caught in any QC done after the repair but it wasn't.

In your case, after the drop, there should have been a full dismantle and thorough inspection of each and every component. It feels to me like they repaired cosmetic damage and did not do a full movement overhaul. Then over time other issues 'come up'.

As CW grows I hope that service and service QC is looked at a little more closely.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with the C60 MK1, 2 or 3. They are a tough reliable watch. I would wager that the return rate is very low.

I know from bitter experience that dropping a watch onto a bathroom floor (tile) is not good for the watch. In many cases this can void the warranty. Not sure if this is the case with CW but if there is anyone out there who's read the fine print I would love to know.

We have read posts for some time about poor communication of repairs in terms of status, timing and reporting of what has been done to the watch. When CW move to their new headquarters in September it might be a good idea for them to have something on their website about the repair process and what the customer might expect in terms of communication. Do I want them to do what Omega has done and send me a bag of parts from my watch? No, not really. Do I want them to give me a breakdown of what parts have been replaced? No, not really. If this sort of breakdown is going to add cost to the service then I don't want to know. What I do want to know is:

The watch has been received - Date and possible time
The watch has been inspected - Date
Timing of repair - estimate
Cost of repair - estimate (if applicable)
Payment for repair received (if applicable)
Revised timing of repair completion - Date (if applicable)
Watch has been shipped back to me

There will no doubt be comments that Brand X tells me every minute detail of what has been done to the watch. Good for them but that's a "nice to have" not a requirement. How much are you willing to pay for that? Be honest, how much are you willing to pay for that? All I really want is that repairs are done properly and that costs and timings are well communicated. We can do a test of this...

Repair with communication as I laid out above is (making this up) $200
Repair with minute details added $300
I wonder how many people will pay the extra $100...

I have sympathy for the OP who had to send a watch back more than once to get it working properly and that the communication was not up to standard. In this case the watch was subject to an extreme event (floor/timepiece high impulse event) and many brands wouldn't have fixed it under warranty due to that (yes, they can tell). A watch should be repaired properly first time. That is a good expectation and standard to have. Will that always be the case? Sadly not. It took Omega in the US three attempts to fixed my dropped watch so this can happen. This is something that CW should look to improve but, I'm sure, that most repairs go through first time without any issues.

Being the owner of a fair few Tridents I can honestly say hand on heart I've never had any issues whatsoever, hence proving their durability and longevity.
Goes without saying watches in general don't bounce well 😁

I concur, I have owned more than one C60 Trident Pro 600 with absolutely no problems or complaints. In fact, I am wearing a 5 year old glossy black dialed C60 Trident 600 as I write this. The C60 range offers great value for the money if you like the looks & wear of dive watches.

It is unfortunate that the watch was dropped onto a hard surface and for sure, some damage has occurred. Rather than send to Christopher Ward, any competent watchmaker should be able to service and repair your watch. If you do some research, you will likely find a reputable watchmaker near you that would be able to repair your watch. The movement within, is not proprietary and spares will be readily available and relatively cheap.

@MarkingTime -

Sadly your sensible advice may have fallen on deaf ears as @hamavos doesn't appear to have checked in recently;-

I hope so, it would be a shame for this particular watch to not get back into a fully working condition, as the owner has a personal attachment to it.
