I hadn’t noticed the alignment of the text. Not that I’d looked that closely. But now that I’ve seen it (or rather, had it pointed out), I’ll not be able to un-see it. It’s but me right off the watch. Small details can be so important.

You didn’t! I first learnt this over thirty years ago and, at least back then, the point was that the process is cyclical where you can indeed become blasé and eventually return to unconscious incompetence. It’s why refreshers and Continuous Professional Development are a thing.
